Was at the neighbors for supper last night, and out of the blue, he asked me if I knew someone, who could get his old barn gun going ( won't fire the 22 bird shot cartridges anymore )... I said I would take a look, and he went out and brought in a quite ugly alloy 22, revolver... Dusty, rusty, little paint left on it, no grip panels... Main spring is weak, and the gun needs a lot of tlc, starting with a good cleaning... Are there any parts around for this model... Says Frontier Scout 62 on the side... Seems to function well, except for a weak mainspring

I see a mainspring... But no grips on my 1st gunbroker search, and looks like they are not worth too much even in nice shape... I'd like to get it going for him... He said it was the 1st handgun he ever bought

Awesome... It's a pretty ugly gun, but he's been using it even with no grip panels, to shoot birds out of his farm equipment sheds... Guessing if it looks too nice, or valuable, someone will steal it out of the shed... So I'm not looking to do any cosmetic... Just get it reliably firing 22 bird shot again... Barrel was rusty / dusty enough, that when he 1st handed it to me, the only thing I could see was a Colt looking logo... But it looks kinda funky... But after knocking the rust and dust off the barrel, I confirmed it was actually a Colt... I thought it may have been a cheap knock off, when I 1st saw it...

I'll have to look it over again, I see there are several frame, or grip frame styles... At least, P,G,K,and Q... Any idea where that code is???

Wow, looks like a good candidate for chunking into a sonic cleaner and leaving it for a while.
Am sure others will chime in. Maybe get some flat spring stock and cut it down to fit?
I would tape off some areas and give it a coat of somthing. Drives me nuts to see guns taken care of that way. Buddy has a 97 shotgun in his barn. It WAS actually one of the blackdiamond grades at one time.

Cleaned it up real good... 22 cartridges fire on 2nd strike.... Seeing the serial ends in a "P" so assuming this is a P frame... Now to try to find a mainspring for a P frame...

MWM, for the little finish that’s left on the frame, why not finish removing it and give it a little polish. I’ve got a real soft spot for .22s, minimal effort here would give the little colt a new lease on life. As you say, it only has to shoot bird shot in the barn, but it could look good while it was doing it.

I'm tempted... I have some Aluminum Black Paint from Brownells as well... I'm also shopping for grips for the little gun... I'm not sure how much cosmetic work he would be happy with... I know he leaves it in an unlocked big shed for his equipment ( assume he has a stash spot ) thinking the way it looks right now, no one would steal it, even if it were in plain sight... they are bigger farmers in the neighborhood, & have 5-6 seasonal young guys that help at planting & harvest... ( it looks more like an old Rohm 22 I used to have than a Colt right now ) I don't want to make it look too good, to where someone would want to steal it... although, if it looks nicer when I get it back to him, maybe it'll get a little more respect...
I stopped by last night ( MRS had forgotten her purse when we were over there Saturday night ) & told him what he had... he's like 70 right now, & said he bought it when he was 18... his wife had never seen it... the story on the grips, was he shot another bigger critter, many years ago ( possum, coon, or woodchuck most likely ) & the shot didn't kill it so he went to "konk" it on the head, & both the plastic grips broke in pieces... it's not had grips on it since that day... I'm thinking it needs a set of wood grips, maybe they'll be a bit more durable???

I'm not finding any parts for the "P" so I'm wondering if the other Frontier Scout 22 Mainsprings might fit... my retired buddy told me to check a couple things, when I had him on the phone consulting about this one... seems this has a safety notch ( Click ) a half cock, & full cock... on the safety notch, you can pull the trigger, which is what he wanted me to check, he told me it was likely worn, & needed the hammer replaced... but I tried putting a spacer block between the grip frame & the main spring ( to simulate the strain screw on an old S&W ) that tightened up the spring, & the trigger couldn't be pulled in the safety notch, so I'm wondering if a new spring is all that is needed??? also thought if I couldn't find a new spring, if I couldn't drill & tap a hole & add a strain screw like a S&W would have, easier than making a new spring... thoughts???

I think I have a pair of Colt hard rubber black grips you can have for it. May be for a saa sized gun but send me your address and if I can find them I’ll send them out and you can whack and chop and see if they can be taped onto the frame if nothing else.
