So I've been in a bad financial way for awhile and sold about 40 guns in the last year. Well I sold my home and paid debt. So I go to the pawn shop this am that has a few of mine to see about buying them back and I see a model 97 premier 44 special 6" alittle dirty, some scratches but it's SS so I can buff them out. Action and trigger are great, has the black mircata grips I like but I've never owned an FA. And since every Ruger I buy I do action jobs on and upgrade parts etc. I'd rarher buy some nice SA's i dont have to completly rebuild my way. This used 97 is $1399. Good price or not? I never see these guns in shops for sale that often and most on GB are expensive. Anything I should know about it or check out? My first FA! He sold all my other guns so I bought it. Here couple pics.

Sounds reasonable, not stealing it but not overpaying either. Maybe a little haggle room in it. Maybe.

I had the Freedom shop do a special custom 97 for me in 44spl just this past summer, and even though mine has some features and markings done that a standard won't (which added a little to the price-tag) I can still say that it would have been WELL over $1399 without my-own customizing..
So if that one is in fair enough condition and has a trigger you like, I don't think you could go wrong for that price. That's my opinion. A brand new Freedom Arms like-it is going to run a guy significantly more ca-ching if you were ordering it off their front desk.

Yep. I would have bought it. There is very little you would need to do with a handgun that you couldn't do with that one. Congrats!

That will do everything you need in Texas, so don't fret about those other guns. Since the action and trigger are good, and since you've got the micarta grips already, there's not much room to upgrade from there. As much as I love custom Rugers, it's hard not to reach for the FA 97 44 every hunt.
Glad to see you back on your feet a bit. If you'd like to PM me your address I'll drop a bit of maroon 3M scotch brite in an envelope and send it your way. It's what the factory uses apparently, and having used it on my FAs it does match the factory scratch pattern perfectly. One bit of pad will square away that gun for years of use.

Nice, I’d have given that and never looked back. Nice to just spend your money on loading supplies instead of parts and upgrades.

My actual final price was $1350 no tax! Now I would like an original model 353 so I can go to the top of the straight walled 357mag. Velocity limits. Also, a 4 1/4", RB in 357mag or better yet 45acp. Express sighted, to carry. Then a TLA. In any caliber, custom 50spl and 50gi combo, etc, etc.....

Merry Christmas my friend. That is a beauty. I am glad you were able to obtain this revolver. Enjoy it and don't look back. All we have is today and our hopes for the future.

Nice! Not much you can't do with that. Can be loaded mild to wild. Very good price. Now you need one of these -- 45 Colt/45 ACP, 3 1/2" round butt M97. Mine current wears the 45 ACP cyl. . Size comparison vs S&W 386 3 1/4" bbl . . And, if so inclined, with 2x Leupold. Makes for a compact, accurate, powerful little package. . . Paul

Yep I live that look and size. Good carry gun, With sob holster.
But from over 25 years hunting with revolvers that small and scoped with my hot 45lc handload would send that little rig right into my lap. Lol

You can not go wrong with that gun or caliber. My own FA 44 Special is similar with a 5.5" barrel.
Ditto on the Black Micarta Grips, Action Job and the works.
Sights on mine are the FA Notch Rear and Partridge Front from our own Ken Oneill.
Using the various Ladies' Emory Boards and Nail Buffers, you can likely make that gun look new.
