"Been trying to dream up some new loads for the 29-2 so I can take it out to longer distances....”

Once we have a proper .44 Magnum revolver, accuracy comes from a balanced bullet. The cartridge is as intrinsically accurate as a cartridge can be, a fact shared by its magnum mates .357 & .41. The following loads represent a selection of bullets which shoot into a coffee cup the length of a football field.
Jacketed
* Sierra 240 JHC over
----22 to 24 grains 296 or H110.
----21 grains Hercules or Alliant 2400.
----23 to 24 IMR 4227 or H4227.
* Sierra 220 FPJ (Full Profile Jacket) over
----22 to 24 grains 296 or H110.
* Sierra 250 FPJ over
----23 or 23.5 grains 296 or H110.
* Sierra 210 JHC over
----22.5 to 26 grains 296 or H110.
* Hornady 240 XTP over
----loads similar to above.
* Hornady 265 FP over
----23.2 grains 296 or H110.
* Hornady 200 JHP (long ago replaced by 200 XTP) over
----22 grains 2400.
* Nosler 200 JHP, 240 JHP, and 300 JHP alsop are excellent bullets, especially predictable in soft skin game such as deer. These bullets mimic the consistent punch found in the old Hornady Jacketed Hollow Points with pure lead core.
The above loads use Large Pistol Magnum primer.
Cast, lube or POWDER COAT
Dynamic balance becomes the issue with cast bullets. Two major factors enhance cast accuracy: 1) separation of Center of Gravity (COG) from Center of Form (COF), and 2) absence of flaws.
* Cast 240 or 250 SWC over
----21 grains Hercules or Alliant 2400; mag primer; crimp in crimp groove.
* Cast bullets must be individually tested for accuracy, as quality varies. Semi Wad Cutter designs excel in long range stability. For a mild load capable of shooting 4-inches @ 100 yards 240 SWC or 250 SWC, DEEP SEAT over:
----5.5/Win 231 or HP-38; standard primer; COL=1.500”.
* 240 or 250 SWC over
----10.6 grains HS-6; standard primer; COL=1.500”.
