Was somewhat frustrating as all the animals passed just out of sight or were wrong for shooting and as the cold has begun creeping in we decided to end this years hunt last saturday. Whit that in maind i did not have the best hopes when i made my fire and sat down, waiting for all to get to their places and the dogs released. After some 45 min i got a heads up that one dog were coming my way so i got up and made myself ready, when i heard something big approaching, turned out to be a cow and a calf. As they passed the road i got a clean opening on the calf and got a shoot of, he only went about 20 meters as the bullet passed through both lungs just above the hart. Happy hunting Mathias

Hello We mainly use two races for moose were i hunt, Norwegian elkhound en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Elkhoundand Jamthund, Swedish moose hound en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JämthundThe idea is that the barking of the hound keeps the moose standing still so the dog handler can move in for a shot, so if you have good dogs its great fun for the owner but not so much for us sitting and waiting for a moose leaving the area hunted Mathias

Interesting style of hunting & if I remember correctly all of the moose hunters must pass a shooting test before they are allowed to hunt them. I think it's a moving target. Also I saw a survey once where it mentioned the 6.5/55 was still one of the most popular calibers over there. Congratulations!

You are mostly right Before you are allowed to own a gun for hunting you must pass two exams one for what we call #small game" in princip birds and mammals up to roe dear, and "big game" moose and bear, both exams includes a written test and a shooting test. For small game you need to hit 4 out of eight clay pigeons whit a shotgun and place 5 shoot with a small caliber gun usually 22lr within a 12cm circle, for big game the shooting test is 12rnd whit a class 1 rile 6,5x55 or bigger, the test starts whit 1 shot on a standing moose figur witch starts on the sound of the rifle going of, then one shot on the moving target this is repeated until you have passed. Then you can get a certifikat that allows you to apply for a hunting rifle whit the police, you are allowed 6 rifles/shotguns. It´s no formal requirement that you pass a big game shooting test every year, but many of the big land owners have made it mandatory if you are to be allowed to hunt on there land. Were i hunt we have about 50/50 private and company land so we usually get together 2 times and shot before hunting season begins. Well that was some rambling, hope you enjoyed Mathias

How about a description of your rifle and scope? David Bradshaw

Congrats!
No better way to harvest a white tailed deer, than one pursued by a pack of hounds, preferably beagles so the deer dos not run so fast.
Still a few states in good ole Dixie that allow deer hunting with hounds.
