Gentlemen,
I'm interested in booking a mountain lion hunt next year and am looking for outfitter recommendations. I've seen a few here in the past but am looking for more up-to-date recommendations of quality outfitters. Living in Maine, I've been fortunate to hunt western states four separate times now but am not able to do something like this every year. I'm looking for a quality experience and have no problem with a physically demanding hunt.
Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer.

My son and I used Leon Brown with Clark Fork Outfitters out of Idaho and had a great hunt.

There are several outfitters around the central part of Idaho that should be able to offer you a quality Lion hunt. You might check with the Idaho Outfitters Assn. Also I think friend Ken O'Neil has hunted Lions here. Hopefully he will chime in. In my neck of the woods we have lots of Lions but we also have lots of Lion hunters who have hounds & there are guys hunting close to town every day so I don't think any outfitters even work this area, not worth their time. Good luck on your search.

Thanks guys. Some time ago I wrote down Allred's Adventures as one that was recommended by someone on this site. I've emailed them but it's nice to have some options, Idaho seems like the place to go. I hunted elk in the Selway-Bitterroot area a few years back with no luck but had a great time. Pretty rugged country.

In my early years of hunting the Selway you could kill a bull with a wet Kleenex! Now the wolves have killed most of them, sad. One time my brother & I was coming down the Selway River from Thompson Flats with our pack string & just as we rode past Upper Crossing we spotted a Lion standing right in the trail, my brother was in the lead & he bailed off & tried to get a shot but the big cat was too quick & jumped into heavy cover before he could get his rifle out of the scabbard.

My information is quite dated, but I had excellent hunts with these 2 outfitters: Shawn Labrum of Uinta Range Outfitters, out of Roosevelt Utah, and Darl Allred of Sawtooth Wilderness Outfitters, out of Garden Valley, Idaho.

Thanks Ken, I'm guessing that's where I got Allred's information from. I try to keep track of various things that come up on this forum and had saved his information a while back. I emailed him yesterday. I'm also going to take a serious look at Tyler Bowler's operation in Utah based on Max's recommendation. Thanks again for your help.

If you are into a horseback hunt on dryground in AZ, Chris Todd is a great outfitter. I have hunted with him 3 times. Dryground is a LOT different than hunting in the snow but It's the only way I will hunt them. I enjoy being horseback in the desert with a good pack of hounds.

I have some friends who dry ground hunt in southern Utah & as you state it is totally different than hunting in the high elevation snow country. I know about that!

However, coming from Maine I don't get to do it very often. The last time I was on horseback was in Idaho...12 miles the first day, 18 the next. After that my "horse muscles" lost interest...

Good point.
I have horses so ride often. When hunting lion with the guide, we did 20 miles a day for 5 days straight. I loved every minute of it, but I can see how it might become an issue for those that don't get to ride much.
Good luck in your search for a guide. Be sure to report back after the hunt.......Whether or not you were successful
