Were the Speer's the older GD or the newer Deep Curls ? Soft points either way I believe, but correct me if not please. Mine the Deep Curl 325gr SP's and I'd expect them to pass thru that bear. Just bumped my charge of 13 grs of PP to 13.3. Some under your likely velo I'm sure. I'm not sure of the age, I had only bought them a few months ago but they are the soft points and labeled deep curls, so I misspoke initially in my original post. I tried pushing my velocity up to get the expansion of the bullets without having to go to a hollow point. I can/could get more by going with h110/296, but 2400 has been doing so well for me in all my cartridges I can't turn away and the accuracy I was able to obtain with the load gave me confidence immediately. The gold dots are the 275gr hollow points. I have 100 of them on hand, but I'm not loading them for deer or anything. Might load some up hot just to see what they'll do to some water jugs, but no plans for hunting with them. Mostly bought them because they're so hard to find.

Thanks. Went thru a box of the 275 hp's too. Used CFE-P, kind a break in load. The XTP's got crazy expensive and I started looking at the Speers and liking what I am seeing. I like the flat across the nose, meplat on the 325gr Deep Curls. I've trimmed back my bullet seating stem to be flat and works well with these bullets.

Squigs... Congrats! I too took my first big game with a revolver this fall. Nothing like it is there? How cool for your first to be a bear! Way to take advantage of the weapon at hand, and a great one in my opinion. Keep it up and fill your deer tag in the same manner!!!!

Congrats, well done. Anything taken with a wheelgun is a trophy. My first deer with a wheelgun was far from my biggest, but it is the best and one I covet the most. Jeff

No matter when you start handgun hunting,, your first kill is memorable. To take a bear,, especially running,, is excellent. It build confidence,, and you will feel better when you fully leave the long gun at home. Congratulations on a fine hunt! With as many kills as I have already with a handgun,,, I've never taken a bear with one,,, yet,,,,! Y'all have a right to be proud!

Congrats. A bear is on my list as well. But the ND prairie doesn’t offer much in the way of bears. Afraid I’ll have to travel! Great shooting.

We need to remember, in Penn,no dogs, no bait,no glassing from afar or from a boat. You drive and jump shoot or stand up and wait for a driven bear to run by or try and sneak by. Success rate under 10%. Truly a trophy. Congrats. To date, I've a collection of pics showing tracks and shat. Many encounters while trout fishing and backpacking, camping though.

Really good work staying on the sights, hammer and trigger.
Great trophy too. Thanks for sharing an example of staying with your good sixgun work.
