I can see what it does and can see how it might help.
I got my first 550 in '85 or '86. I had to leave the screws loose for the primer bar to function, leave plenty of slop. Of course too loose and the bar would go this way and that way... sometimes the screws would even fall out. Too tight and it wouldn't work at all. I lived with it this way for 30+ years... finally contacting Dillon one day and asking about it. They sent me new primer bar sliders and it worked fine, like it was supposed to. Doh!
I guess it was just a stacking tolerances thing.

I have two Dillon 550B's. One is set up for small primers and one is set up for large primers. I found that keeping a spray can of air next to the machines pretty much has eliminated priming woes. I keep the area clean with the air spray.
