Yup, all seem to be in favor. I had a 500L done a few years ago and the builder didn't put his mark on it. Not sure why, I didn't ask. It's on it's way back now for some things and I think I'll have him put it on. John Gallagher left his name off a 475 I had built but when I returned for extra fitting I had him put his name on the gun

They make it not far from here about 30 miles...but Buffalo Trace and Old Graddad are both within a mile of my house. You can smell it cooking...

Yes to the MM. Just keep it tasteful please. An understanding to have between builder and buyer as to what and where. I like the paw print that Doc puts on his holsters for example.

Have customs both with and without, not a fan of billboard type advertising. I'm not into fancy BBQ type guns. Want the work and details to go into accuracy and dependability. I'm a work truck kind of guy, think sports cars are nice but have no use for one. Simple marking or fancy billboard is usually a custom smiths trade mark.

Definitely, “Yes!” as most have stated. Nothing tacky, as one particular unnamed custom-smith does. There’s a point when it becomes an unaesthetic distraction.
I have an early, 4-digit SBH (letters to 1962) with unidentified custom work: beveled crown on a 4 5/8” barrel, glass-like action, etc.
I would really like to know “who and when.”

I have a three screw Ruger that was converted to .44 Special with a Colt New Frontier barrel and a bored out cylinder years ago before Ruger took the hint. It has the crispest trigger I’ve ever shot. The gentleman I got it from said Alan Harton built it. I talked to Alan and he said he probably did. I sure do wish it said Single Action Service on it. So my serious answer is yes.

Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, et al. signed their artwork. No difference here.

When I had a 500L, Octagon, NM Flat Top Bisley done by John Gallagher a few years ago I just figured it would come back with Johns Makers Mark on the top strap. I was kind of surprised it didn't but did kind of like the "clean" look and never asked about it. I was just happy to get it! But I'm rethinking it. I sent the gun to John last week for some things and think I will have him put his MM on it. Also probably a polished blue instead of the current matt finish. I had considered cerakote but decided to stick with blue. My gun... Pic of Johns MM...
