...are strictly close-range guns. I don't believe them. I shot this target last evening at 25 yards, double action, standing unsupported, at a cadence of 1 shot per second. The gun is a Colt Detective Special in .32 S&W long made in 1949. The trigger is exceptional.

I think I saw ( sorry... absolutely no caffeine yet ) a professional shooter... shoot a snubbie at 100 yard steel targets & hit it regularly... I couldn't do that, but my regular handgun target backer is at 30 yards from my bench... I often sit there & just rest my elbows on the bench, & shoot snubbies... a couple sips of Iced Tea later... Jerry Miculek... 200 yards snubbie www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIwVK_FxGZk

I have an instructor friend that when giving CCW courses would leave an IDPA target up at 100yds. Sooner or later a snubby comment would come up. He'd stop the class, use his snubby Taurus and my Kahr P-9 and empty both and make all hits. I'll admit I'd have been very happy to make hits with half the rounds that went downrange. I'll also share he he competed for the Army and we knew both guns were capable. Generally though, the operator is the weak link. Eye relief is the fastest and easiest way to a smaller group. Egos come into play even at beginners classes.

I have an older Model 60 that is really easy to keep shots in the X-ring with. Love it.
Same for my Model 37, only I don't shoot it near as much.

Nice shooting with that Colt and the 640 Pro. First idea that needs to be forsaken is" snubbies are inaccurate". Once you believe in them and hone your skills, they are quite entertaining to run a course with. Love Snubbie matches with a couple of reloads and down and dirty from 3 to 15 yards.

I don't buy a snub nose revolver expecting accuracy at 25 yards. But if that is what I ended up with, I sure wouldn't complain!
I built my custom Vaquero with a 3.5" barrel as a 25 yard gun. I discovered I could hit man sized steel at 100 yards. Same concept. Not my intention, but it sure warms the cockles of my heart to hear that steel ring!

I had an SP-101 2.5" 357 mag that would consistently shoot inside a 5" circle at 25yds. The load was 9gr of Longshot under a 135gr Gold Dot. I never chrono'd it but it had similar recoil to a 357 mag 125gr golden saber.
This gun was one that Ruger sent me in return of another SP-101 with a canted barrel that wouldn't even get on paper at 25yds.
Would you believe I traded that gun in? It almost makes cringe to think about.

I began shooting my dad's S&W m36 chief Special at 9yrs old. I could shoot 25yd groups as well as farther accurate shots. I carried it over 25yrs and now it's my go to bedroom gun. When each of my kids turned 9 i let them shoot it as well. Im 46 the gun is over 50yrs old and still is 99% condition in and out and still resides in its original Geo Lawrence in the pants leather wrapped clip holster. Never saw another like it.

My eyes simply aren’t what they were forty years ago - and my long distance is closer than it used to be - snubbies can shoot well if we do our part.
The little S&W 640-1 has always done well for me and I should buy another. A 2” M10-7 still surprises me at how well it groups.
The 32H&R J frame is accurate in a friend ‘s hands - but I need to work on my end! Fun snubby though.
Just my opinions and worth a cup of coffee.

JS...if you are in the market for another 640, look at the 640 PRO...it is just like my 632 PRO above but in .357... The sights are excellent as is the trigger pull...best S&W snubbie that I have ever owned...
