I have been a lurker on this forum for several years now and have learned tons from you experienced hand gunners! Well this weekend I finally accomplished something worth posting. After two years of hunting off and on with a revolver, I finally took my first big game animal with my Ruger Bisley Hunter in 44 Magnum. I was hunting down in Shirley Basin Wyoming with my grandfather and was fortunate enough to take a nice little antelope buck at 98 yards. It was a tremendous sense of accomplishment and a gratifying experience! I have been bitten by the bug as they say. Normally I would not be and advocate for shooting at that distance with an open sighted revolver at a game animal, however I do practice at that distance and the antelope gave me a perfectly broadside shot with no cross wind (unusual for WY) so I took it. At the shot the buck spun and ran straight away from me about 50-60 yards and piled up! My grandfather and I have been hunting together ever since I was knee high to a grass hopper, and for him to witness my first big game handgun harvest made the experience that much more memorable. I do have several pictures I would love to share, but like I said I am new to the posting on this forum and for some reason am unable to figure out how to post the images. If one of you tech savvy gents or ladies would be willing to pm me an email address, I would be happy to send you the pics if you would be so kind to post them here for me. Thank you to all here for the knowledge you share on these pages and it was your words of wisdom that birthed a new fellow handgun hunter!

Good job. Looks like you might be giving Sixshot a bit of competition.

***** wyo..... an antelope with iron sight sixgun.... and to take your first deer-class handgun game by this act, from the length of a football field no less, makes you a charter member of the Old Timers Sixgun Club. For an animal to run 20 to 60 yards before piling up is standard fare for a lung shot, rifle or revolver. To make such performance in company of your grandfather is a dream. Come on back with your load; reckon members of Singleactions want to know. David Bradshaw

Mr. Bradshaw thank you for your kind words and welcoming me to the Sixgun Club! I have spent a lot of time getting this revolver to shoot. It had a couple barrel restrictions from the factory. One at the forcing cone and the other about an inch and a half from the end of the bore. After using Mr. Smiths guide to barrel lapping, I finally was able to shoot cast without leading. My go to load for this revolver is 21 grs. of 2400 topped with Elmer's finest, a Montana Bullet Works 255gr keith bullet. I believe the bhn on that bullet is 22, so very hard. Also if memory serves me the bullet actually weighs 263 grs on my scale. I have chronographed the load but do not remember the fps right off hand. When I get to my loading journal I will report back the velocity. I know one thing, I was totally surprised at the damage done. I have read about it on this forum and in Max Prasac's books, and looked at pics and posts from sixshot's hunts, about what the meplat and cast bullets can do, but it was impressive to whiteness it!

Congrats, Wyo. I was able to score on a antelope doe a couple years ago with a new to me 5 shooter and it was the most gratifying stalk and shot I’ve made in a long time.
Not my first kill but one that was special because of the gun and it was my first pronghorn handgun kill.
