If one were to get a.327 single action and willing to spend a bit of money, which would you get and why?

The top strap on the FA 97 is more versatile and attractive. For the same money I don't think you can make a single six as pristine a gun as the FA.

Freedom Arms with a trigger job. Their test targets are usually 5 shots in one ragged hole.

As long as you like stainless, go with FA. You can spend a lot of money trying to make a Ruger shoot like an FA out of the box

I've got a 5.5" Ruger Bisley Single Seven, but now I am saving for a 5.5" Model 97.

Depends on what you're going to do with it. My own FA97 in 327 Federal (and 32-20 Cylinder) is scoped with a Weaver 2x mounted to a SSK T'SOB Base by Warne Rings. It is deadly accurate, but far heavier than my Single Sevens.
One of my 7.5" Single Sevens shoots 1" at 35 yards from a bench. I'd wager a man out on a hunt couldn't tell the accuracy difference unless he carried a nice, heavy bench around as well.
So, for woods walking and trail use, I'd opt for a nice Single Seven. For Stand, Bench or Off The Hood Hunting, I'd go for the FA97.
As usual we are the Enablers. So, therefore, I vote for one if each.

Well... in the true spirit of this website, the answer may be both... kind of..
On the verge of getting a S7 Bisley. I'd much prefer stainless to blue. Anyone have any insight whether they will do a stainless version?
Also, about decided to get a 97 in .45 whenever see opportunity for a good used one pop up.

I am just a poor country boy and I like my Single 7 just fine. I looked at the price of the Freedom Arms stuff, NO !

I have a 6.5" 97 and a friend has a 7.5" S-S.
Have only shot one cylinder full of my rounds out of his gun and it was an excellent shooter.
The load was an Accurate 31-120S at 1400 fps from my 6.5" 97.
I voted for the 97 only because you said you were going to customize the S-S. If you are going to put $500-1000 into the S-S buy the 97 and be done with it....
If you are patient and shop around one can find a 97 under $2K... Mine was brand new in the box from a dealer who ordered it for himself. When it came in (18 months later) he decided he didn't want to get into another caliber and put it out for COST...$1900 with 3# trigger, black Micarta grips and special barrel length. I have seen several other "used" LNIB .327s sell on Gunbroker for under $2K since then.

I figured the s7 would be fun and I could take time to watch for a good deal at the right time on a 97. If get a s7 now, not 100% sure what caliber for 97. Thinking 45 maybe most practical; but would be open to 327, 41, and 45. Most of my revolvers are 44 magz; but that isn't option. Probably look for the "right" package (@ 5.5" inch barrel, round butt, action job. Micarta grips, price I can rationalize as a "good" deal as can't really justify from perspective of need, with caliber open.

Same money? Custom Single Seven Bisley with the Bisley hammer. I sure hate that hammer on the FA revolvers... and the BFR... and....

For the same money I would go with the Ruger and start with a 32 H&R. I have a single seven and I don’t like the loading and unloading of the seven. My 6 shot 32’s are easier to manipulate. A custom 6 shot Ruger 327 would get my vote.

A custom Ruger 327 would get my vote. By far, my favorite .32 is my S6 bisley .32hrm. I had the loading problem also. I deepened the trough with some 600grit. Of course that wouldn’t work with a blued gun.
