Nice sight picture - thanks for sharing that post! Love mine. I don't think the issue is what the gun will take, but what you can shoot well quickly. I loaded some 340 grain hard cast over H110 and while the loads are in SAAMI spec and perfectly safe (at least for limited use) it breaks my grip with every shot and I have to re-grip the gun before firing again. Way too slow if you're using it for any kind of defense, so I loaded something more mild that I could recover and shoot quickly. Still full-house magnum loads, just not the heavyweights. I still don't shoot it as well as my single actions, but I shoot them so much more that's to be expected.

Shoot what you want... Remember the 44 Special 696 and the thin forcing cone? Look at the forcing cone on your 44 mag.

Better yet, read Brian Pearce's article in Handloader mag..Receiver ring threads of larger diameter. Endurance package upgrades, and thinnest spot in/on cylinder thicker than the 29/629's. Do not exceed SAAMI, and yes the cylinder is shorter. Those are the limitations to the M69 44mag.. steve

I would stick to standard, 44 magnum loads. Personally, I find that standard 44 magnum loads offer excellent accuracy out of my 69. The recoil is not disruptive for me and I have no expectations of making the gun do something beyond its safe abilities. It is an easily carried, 5 shot revolver pushing a very capable cartridge. That is sufficient for my needs, both real and perceived.
