Not sure if anyone here is into H&R rifles. I’ve got a couple I bought several years ago for under 200 that I really enjoy. I recently came across a brand new in the box never purchased or fired sitting on a shelf at a old gun shop for 340$. it’s the .223 with bull barrel survivor stock etc. no iron sights just a rail for a scope. haven’t seen any others for sale but the shotguns in awhile so considering snagging this one for plinking target shooting and varmint hunting. Good deal on the price or to high?

I have a couple of H&R/NEF rifles and I like them,,,,,, When they are about 200 bucks and used. But being out of production now they are the past. ? The future ? At $340 you are getting pretty close to the price of the Henry single shot (Street price seems to be about $400) and it is a MUCH nicer gun IMHO. I would check out the Henry first. At least you would still have factory support and parts available.

The CVA Scout is a nicer gun, IMO, as well. I even like the lower priced CVA Hunter...

More than I would *want* to pay. But...it's a great little rifle, they aren't making them anymore and the Survivors were higher to start with. Since most people these days don't know that a single shot is a viable option...you can't do a "mag dump"..and demand is not high...I'd offer them substantially less and let them work me higher. Otherwise, there are used ones out there in good shape. Not too many people wear out a Handi. Boils down to how bad you want one...today.

Just a passing hindsight afterthought. If labeled as a " Survivor" implying survival and harsh condition capability would you not expect iron sights as an option ?

[b Yea I don’t understand that either. I actually prefer iron sights on any rifle I buy and dislike how the majority now only come with a rail or scope mounts. seems backwards that I buy a new gun without any sights and have to purchase the sights separate but I guess that’s the most popular. I appreciate all the feedback. If the price was lower I would have already bought it. I could offer less but I’ll check out a single shot Henry first. The little handi rifles are good beat around guns and utility guns to have around. My two are great hunting rifles. my use for the .223 would be coyote hunting and plinking long range.

And the Handi has a bull barrel, whereas the Henry doesn't, and you can still find barrels to swap out for the Handi... if that's a factor. The Henry's are nice looking guns...any accuracy claims from those who own one?
