38 Short Colt.... Range buddy brought it up yesterday. Starline makes brass. Looks like a .750 38 Special case. The draw is a cartridge that will completely exit the cylinder when expelled from the chamber by the ejector. Pulling out a coffee can of 38 Special cases and the harbor Freight chop saw today. Square them up with a case trimmer, champher the mouth, and load using a mix of 38 and 9mm dies... Taper crimp for now. Might have a 30 Special roll crimp die shortened a bit.

What blades are you using on that saw to cut brass?

The big draw to the cartridge is significantly better extraction in the short extractor short barrel 38 Specials. Looked around a bit and see Lee makes dies. Cut 50 cases to just over .750 yesterday. Today I'll trim them to .750, deburr and chamfer, seat some primers, and flare the case mouths. Have not settled on a bullet and powder charge.

Cut, trimmed to length, deburred, chamfered, and primed. Picking a bullet and a powder charge. I plan to single stage the stuff until I know I like it. Dillon says use the 9mm powder funnel on my 550.

The run fast shoot fast guys say heavy bullets are the way to go in this cartridge. Got to worry with swelling the bottom of the short case. I load a 147 grain truncated cone in my 38 Super that might be the ticket if I can get my bullet maker to size them .358..... Heavy makes me worry about taper crimping and bullets jumping crimp in light weight revolvers. That Lee crimp roll die may be a must have...

STAN... I think that might be the same bullet I'm loading in mine... sorry, been a while since these were out to play... they are long colt, not short colt... but I am using the 147 trunc cone bullets...

I experimented with something very like this- .355/19. It's a .38 Special case shortened to 19mm OAL. loaded with a .38 Special shell plate and 9mm dies. It does work well in a short-ejector gun. I loaded them to use in my Taurus 905 9mm revolver, but they worked in .38 Special revolvers as well.

Loaded with 9mm seat and crimp dies. Making plans to chop and trim more 38 Special cases. Setting up a Dillon 550 with 38 shellplate and 9mm dies...
