Well, with woodlands and moving deer it's an easy choice. That custom 480. I'll be trying some loads thru my 2 480's here in a couple hours when wife home.

Shotgun for sure. If the deer are on the move you can’t beat a slug gun. I wouldn’t recommend a handgun for a deer on the move. Too many things can go wrong. We went rifle legal for deer several years ago. I’ve shot deer with many rifles but nothing is as effective as a slug gun in a woods setting. Shots tons of deer on drives with a shotgun. You hit them right and they are dead!!!! Slugs make nice big holes and cause a lot of trauma and with the proper slug will penetrate from one end to the other of a deer!!!! I still hunt with my 20 ga slug gun several times a year. It’s my rainy day/deer drive gun.

As Dick said try a fawn bleat. You can also let out a short, quick whistle. I've found that works well too.

In Illinois, you can use a handgun or muzzleloader during shotgun (slug) season.
Many is the time, I've packed both a shotgun and handgun with the idea that would use handgun for all except that trophy buck near the property line (where I really, really want to ensure he's anchored right there and can't go a hundred yards into neighbor property).
