I tried to 45 super an XD compact. Magazine would fall out randomly. The Ruger American compact may be worth looking at. Galloway precision makes heavy springs for it. 45 super is easy to accomplish and feed. The Rowland is somewhat tougher

What caused it ?? The random mag dump ? One of the things I Really like about our XD9 Sub Compacts is the mag release is nice and little. And well protected. I'm not one for big mag release bottons. I want the mag to STAY in the gun until I need to change mags. I would be happier if the mag release on the Gen 3 G20 was half as big as it is.

I removed all of the right side magazine release and most of the left side. After lots of shooting it just wouldn't stop dropping the mag occasionally. I did send it back, they test fired it and stated no problem found. Sold it to a friend of mine that knew about the problem. He's shot it a bunch with zero issues...... Maybe I grip it harder, don't know. Never had a 1911 magazine fall out in fifty years of shooting them so I'll stick to them and revolvers.

The magazine release on an XD is a paddle going fore and aft in the front of the magazine. Maybe recoil so I tried five grains of bullseye and a 230 round nose. Still had random magazine drops. Damn thing was about the perfect size, capacity and power with TFO sights. Those sights are fantastic, big green dots day or night. Maybe the xdm has a different mag release.

As big a fan as I am of the 69, it sounds like the additional capacity of the 10mm / 45 super is more important than the additional power of the .44 magnum in your situation.
I'd pick the platform you like best, shoot well, carry easily and call it good.
