I bought this 3" Model 60-4 when they first hit the market. I really wanted a 4" but settled for this one. I knew it was a limited edition and knew if I didn't take it home I would regret it. I was still a bit dubious of a 3" barrel working for a center fire "kit gun". It was in the winter time, so the next day I took it to my home club's 50 ft. indoor range. I sighted it in (was nearly spot on with the ammo I was using) and the first target (timed fire target) shot standing was a 96/100. I was nearly blown away about that level of performance from a near "snubbie". What was absolutely precious was the comments and wide eyes I got from the bystanders. Of course, I acted like it was perfectly normal... At any rate, that target was NOT a fluke. Subsequent use at the outdoor range at 25 yards made a believer of me. Over the next few years, I took a goodly number of cottontails, snowshoe rabbits in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and a few wounded and sitting grouse. It was a GREAT side gun when birdhunting with my Beretta Over/Under bird gun. Make no mistake, if chance had presented itself I would have taken a 4" barrel over a 3" for these purposes any day of the week. However, the holding qualities of this double underlugged wonder has to be experienced to be believed. A "Full Charge Wadcutter" makes this an excellent "taker of game" as well as a VERY efficient self defense piece. FWIW Dale53

Guys,
This thread got me thinking and my local gun store has a 3" model 60 in .357 for sale right now. I love the look and feel of it and although I have way more single actions and don't shoot the one .357 I have already, I really like this gun. What would a good price be for one of these used but in good shape? Sorry I don't know what - model it is as I haven't fondled it yet. Just started thinking after I already left so trying to get an idea of price.
Thanks,
Mark

I love the little thing. I don't know what they are worth but I think the market might just be slow right now, I'm shocked the Freedom Arms model 97 over there is still for sale too. I also have a 4" J frame .22 that I love. I wish I could get a model 60 with 4" barrel and don't know why Smith doesn't offer one but this thread got me thinking about that 3" at my gun store.

The reality is that if nobody over there wants it....nobody wants it. Have had some low ball offers. By the same token, a 631 went for $3K on Gunbroker last month. Talk about crazy....... All the 4" j-frame guns have been bringing what I consider high prices....have you looked for a 651 lately...OUCH! I don't know why that FA hasn't sold......the readership is a limiting factor.

If it is one of the older 60-10s they will usually bring in the $600s. If it is 60-15 (same gun with the IL) in the $500s and a little more for the Pro Model... Bob

Bob Thanks Bob, Like I said I just started thinking about the gun after I left so didn't handle it yet to see what model exactly or if it has a lock. It is used but doesn't look used much from what I saw through the case. They want $675 for it which even without the lock might be a fair price but a bit more than I wanted to pay. Like everyone I'm looking for a good deal. It's on consignment so not sure how much they will come down. I need to look at it closer when I go down next and check to see if it has a lock and see how tight it is. Thanks again, Mark

Mark..the "going price" for a 60-10 seems to max out at $650...the ones on GB at $695+ are just sitting there...at $650 they sell...
Was in that same shop mentioned above that had the 60-10 for $650...it was gone. In its place was a 60-4 .38 Special...99%..no box...$500...it now has a new home...

Bob; Getting a 60-4 in excellent condition, these days, for $500.00 is a DEAL, in my estimation. Wait until you actually shoot it. I'll bet you'll also be pleasantly surprised. They are useful WAY more than a first glance would suggest.
I have sure benefited from mine, and that's a FACT!
Congratulations!

Mine is a 36-6, very useful little gun. It’s a shame Smith never made very many of them. goo.gl/images/scD8rC

dale....I have had one before. A frined's mom had a pair for her home defense and carry guns. When the recoil got to much for here she sold the .38s and bought a .22 Magnum.
After I found a second 60-10 I sold the -4...

Took the new 60-4 out a couple of days ago... This was at 3 yards. Two rounds point shooting. Three rounds point shooting and then one in the head flash sight picture... 10 yards DA...POA was right where the cartridge case rims are so is shooting a little high left... 50 yards DA...needs some sight adjaustment... Great little gun...
