Thanks to you all and especially to Fowler and bula. Been ruminating on this and I'm going to start him with an old 5.5" 22 Target Ruger Semi Auto with five in the magazine and get some fundamentals down. Then "gallery or cowboy action" loads to break him in on the 44. Trailboss sounds like a good go to powder for that big 44 case.
As a side note, found a 100 235 grain GC 44s that Isaiah's great grandfather cast about 10 years ago, when he gets ready to shoot that bullet I'm going to let him load them and then shoot them.
This project becomes more fun day by day! Thanks for the lead on that Handloader Dec.'14 issue on short barreled revolvers. Thank you everyone for your interest and input, I knew posting that pic of Isaiah and his 44 would get an appreciative response.

I bought 2,000 laser cast 240gr SWCBB from an estate sale. These bullets are fairly old and were sized .429” (current production are sized .431). Loaded with 5.5gr, 6.5gr and 7.0gr of HP38, Deep Seated (1.502”) in 1x Fed brass, primed w/Win LPs and crimped over the front drive band. Chronographed at 5 long paces from the muzzle, 4 ¼” M69 5.5 gr avg 739 fps, 36 es for five shots, 45 Deg F 6.5 gr avg 880 fps, 27 es for five shots, 83 Deg F Here’s a target I shot rested at 25 yds with my 4 ¼” and Leupold 4x I settled on 6.5gr as it seemed to shoot better in my gun and was closer to the fps I was looking for. David’s load is 5.6gr IIRC. I’ve used the standard 240gr SWCBB offered by numerous commercial casters, both trad lubed and coated with similar results. I typically don’t use bullets lighter than 240gr in my 44s, so I can’t help there. Paul

Lucky Grandson and cooler Grandfather.
That gun is unobtanium in my neck of the woods unless the planets and moons align and you’re quick on the draw should one become available for PPT in my area.
