I need a scope mount for a Dan Wesson SuperMag. I need it to be a Weaver mount that clamps to the vent rib on the SuperMag revolvers and that does not require drilling and tapping the frame. My father-in-law, a long time IHMSA shooter, is starting to lose his eyesight and can no longer focus on the front sight of his .357 SuperMag. I want to put an Ultradot on his revolver so he can keep shooting, particularly now that IHMSA has changed the rules for shooters over 65 to permit them to shoot red dot sights in production-class competition. If you have one of these rib-attach mounts that you'd part with, please let me know. Thanks.

My dad used a Burris mount on his DW. It has small bars that went through the slots in the ribs to hold the mount solid.

Thanks Robb, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I think a few companies made them but tracking one down has been a challenge.

I may have a blued one I could part with, if I didn't sell it yet...

Thanks, if you still have it I'd be willing to take it off your hands.

OREGON... I didn't get the chance to look last night, but was thinking... my mount was on a 6" blued 44 Magnum... are the ribs the same??? will that work??? thinking they look similar to my 357 Max, but have never measured...

I think they should be the same. From looking at old catalog listings online I haven't seen the manufacturers differentiating between the vent-ribs on magnum vs. supermagnum revolvers.

All large frame shrouds should have the same rib dimensions. My experience with clamp-on mounts is limited to B-Square rib clamp mounts and the dedicated B-Square rings on the Model 44 .44 Magnum. On recoil, the B-Square mounts bent the rib upwards. Don’t know whether this would happen on the softer-kicking Model 40 .357 Maximum. Another company may have made a clamp-on for the DWA; doubt it was Weaver. A single piece, screw-on base, which takes Weaver rings, was made for the DW rib. Holes must be drilled & tapped through rib pillars. The base is aligned by a shallow channel which drops over the rib. David Bradshaw

Thanks Bradshaw. The sight I'll be using is an Ultradot 30mm red dot sight with alloy rings so it won't be as heavy as a conventional pistol scope in steel rings. Hopefully that will mitigate the upward pressure on the rib during recoil.

This was on a 6" ported 44 Magnum Shroud ( the old style ported shroud, with mismatched ported barrel, that leaded itself together before it became mine, & ended up as a non ported snubbie barrel & shroud... I still have an unported 6" barrel & shroud, so I wasn't in a hurry to get rid of it, but I've put custom fiber optic sights on that revolver that work with either the snubbie or the 6" barrel, so it's not likely to get a scope mounted again...

The Burris clamp-on mount for DWA rib is more carefully thought out than the B-Square. Burris has 3 clamps, which look to butt against the pillars. Whereas, the B-Square base has 2 clamps, with rings which screw to “arms” on the clamps which, on recoil, act as levers to pry the rib. As oregon45 alludes, the low inertia of a lightweight scope pulls less on recoil. Rings made by Burris for twisting onto the Redfield-designed DOVETAIL BASE should interchange between Redfield, Leupold, and Burris. I know Leupold matches Redfield dovetail specification. I'll include the rings, because they are on there ( I see I'm missing an allen screw for one of the rings... must have come unscrewed & came out somewhere over the years )... but these are 1"... I assume Burris has a 30mm ring in this style???
