Its been a long time since I`ve tree stand hunted Pennsylvania whitetail along with the fact I was hoping to test a .475 caliber 300gr bonded JHP by Fury Custom Bullets and I`am happy to say this had a good ending.... Since there`s no reload data for a 300gr jacketed bullet in .475 I used a load for a 325gr Speer that has 33.5grs of H-110 with a MV of 1626fps cause my bullet was 25.0grs less in weight. I figure my 300 grainer, from 10" Freedom, was running somewhere near 1675+fps with the 110 powder charge. After resighting the Leupold 2.5-8X I put two rounds one inch from the bull and two inches apart at 100 which was good enough for me to pack up and call it a good day.... Next morning had me in a tree stand among some tall pines where I took my pack and buckled it to the folding cross bar for a rest. I was able to move the bag around the bar without much noise that proved to be a big help when the aiming my handgun. Later that afternoon three doe appeared 50 or so yards to my left through a hole in the pine branches with one of them giving a perfect broadside. Scope was set at 4X and once settled on the vital area I slowly squeezed the trigger.... BOOM.... As the gun settled I saw my target stumble before the three doe went over a slight rise. About 10 yards beyond I found my deer... As the bottom photo shows I grooved the heart and damaged both lungs along with a large exit hole in the rib cage.... The gun worked...the bullet worked...and most importantly, I worked..... PS- each new season gets a little colder for me then the last, however, when looking down at the trophy doe I took with my handgun makes it all worthwhile....

Nice work James! I used some 325s over a max charge of 296 in my 5.5” Bisley. Awful just awful. Fireball the size of a tractor trailer tire and recoil akin to the 454 in speed and torque but worse. I never ran the 300-325s again. I bet it works fine on critters but just wasn’t my cup of tea from that short barreled beast.

Good job James! You've got to start using more gun, you're lucky she didn't slap you out of that tree & kick your butt all the way back to Jersey. Looks like you placed that shot perfect, should be a nice eating doe.

Great job James. Good shooting. Don't you love it when a plan comes together?

Nice looking doe ! Freezer meat . The 325 gr Hornady XTP factory ammo is going 1478 fps avg from my 7 1/2" 480 Ruger. Its quite enough for me. I MUCH prefer shooting a 400 plus gr boolit @ 1200 fps. But, I do think the 325 gr jacketed would be Very effective on deer, black bear moose and caribou. I need to get a scope on mine. Or a red dot. That is a nice looking hunting revolver you have there. I bet the brake really helps ! Congratulations !

Nicely done, James! I've always heard to use enough gun; no such thing as overkill.

Know what you mean by each season getting colder.Sitting in a tree yesterday getting covered by snow with a 20 mph wind.NOT AS MUCH FUN AS IT USED TO BE!! Doe at dark with 90 gr 3FFF black powder and a .452 250 gr XTP to the neck, no tracking required.

Glen, Its getting harder for me to handle recoil as you describe and I`ve been loading my 5 1/2" Bisley in 480 cases and leaning towards IMR 4227 powder for these loads as I find it to be an accurate powder without all the pressure... As a matter of fact, I loaded some 480 cases with Dupont 4227 under the 300 grain JHP for my iron sight Bisley but never had the chance to use it...The only area the 480 is behind the 475 is shooting heavy bullets at high velocity, otherwise its a excellent cartridge... My dream 480 Bisley was owned by a member who shall remain nameless... (DT ) which was as perfect an all around side arm as I`ve ever seen.....

You've got to start using more gun, Dick Dick, You`ve got to remember that if I should miss my shot at a deer, I can use that long barrel to trip `em when they run by..... ............... I`ve thought of having her cut down but she`s so darn accurate I figure I`ll leave it alone.... However, you should see the looks I get when I pull her out of the case.....

James, trying not to hi-jack here but I made my 19th trip for elk tonight & I was so cold by the time I walked back to the 4 wheeler I couldn't even feel my fingers. Then I had a 3 mile ride back to my truck, no feeling in my face then. Man, it was cold! I'm getting closer I think, elk tracks everywhere but still the gun remains silent.
