I too suffered a lot locally about the use of a handgun for deer. I proved the locals wrong many years ago. Next,,, it's the bear hunters. Many STILL do not want me along because I carry a 45 Colt revolver. I could show them your post,, show off pictures, and they still have their doubts. But,, I LOVE hearing a story where folks have to eat crow about us "undergunned" handgun hunters. KUDOS on a fine hunt & success!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved reading your story. Brings back great memories bringing down my Alaska Yukon bull, also with the 45 Colt, Lil'Gun, and a WFN bullet, though mine was 335 gr.

I keep coming back and reading your account of the hunt. Awesome, to say the least! For some reason, I'm craving steak!

Went down today and picked up 706lbs of bison roasts, steaks, and burgers. After we'd finished loading the pickup, the butcher said'By the way' and handed me the 'insurance shot bullet' he'd recovered in the brisket area of the bison. This bullet had entered in front of the right hip, traversed the length of the bison and wound up in the 'brisket area'. Here it is between two un-fired ones. It's nose is slightly deformed, the powder coat mostly gone, as is the gas check. www.handgunhunt.com/photopost/data/500/bison_hunt_003.JPGThe two unfired ones are from a different mold than the recovered one, but they weigh the same, except the unfired ones have a slightly rounded nose profile. They shoot to the same point of aim and I interchange them depending on which one I grab out of the box.
