The 17-4ph has been shown to be plenty strong in the freedom arms and 454's last forever made out of that. The bfr is a bigger burlier FA and is thicker in many areas but is still not too big, heck they fit my fa holsters as well. In these 500's imho strength with 17-4ph is a non issue.

Max, You ever try shooting the Lyman 515141 in the 500L? I have this mold and I use it because it feeds very nicely in .50-cal based rifles. "typical" large meplat pistol bullets don't. I tried it briefly in my 500 JRH, crushed down to .500, with mediocre results, but I hardly gave it a full shot before I sent the 500 JRH down the road. For a 500L, this bullet is at the top of my list to make work. I don't need meplat when I have 450 grains of weight, 50 caliber worth of diameter, and enough case capacity to get me over 1000 fps. But the nose still worries me since it is not a "standard" profile for pistol bullets. So, think it can be made to work for 100 yard accuracy in the BFR? i would try a 20/1 or a 40/1 (lead/tin). they killed buffalo with it(50-70 gov) and the 500L is just that. since i am cheap, i've gotten a 500L in tc encore 23" MGM barrel with skinner sights, i'd shoot that one for deer/black bear.

Todd, of course you are correct, but we can do better. Why not take full advantage of the large diameter of these half-inch rounds?

Todd, of course you are correct, but we can do better. Why not take full advantage of the large diameter of these half-inch rounds? yep!!! i've wanted a 500L in a revolver for years, i almost had enuff money to buy it, but i had a stroke. the right arm/leg and much of my speech is greatly diminished. i have tried to use my ruger sbh(4 5/8" barrel) , but i can no longer go to 125 yards, it's more like 30 yards. and i'm doing unique type loads, 250gr mihek hp/44sp and 280gr wfn/44mag. i have the 500L in a rifle but i only use it for hs-6, it doesn't do 2400 that well. i use a mbw in 450gr lfn gc and i guess it goes around 1200-1300fps. i still have to decide to use it in either 16.0 or 16.5gr of hs-6. (5 - 5 shot groups at 100 yards). next i want to do a 520 - 530gr lfn and hs-6 and 2400.

Man, I know it's worth it, but what a huge difference compared to a current 45/70 or 454C model.

Me too, one must, for the full 510 caliber...
You guys figure the "bisley style" grip will come included, or be an extra option?

So, I'm closing in on having my pennies accumulated to the top of the jar for this one. A bit early perhaps, but I've been wanting this for awhile and the dream got away from me for a couple years (stopping me from going the custom route). Anyways, the time has come! (at least whenever they will take my order).
If it has to be a custom shop order, I know almost exactly what bits I'd want them to put on it.
A super blackhawk hammer if they still have them. Will buy one from Midway or Brownells if I can't get one direct. That nice front sight blade in the earlier page Bisley-style grip EJRH from the large frame, I like being able to remove the cylinder without ungluing the ejector housing. 7.5" barrel (I'm fuzzy on this, but I like longer barrels, but the 10" I have is just over the top. I think 7.5" is just the ticket for that. I think....)
Then add my own springs from wolff after it arrives. Sounds like just the thing.
The big question I have is because it would be my first custom shop gun. Actually, ever. Anything they offer that "I didn't realize I needed"? I assume the cylinder comes with recessed case heads, barrel with proper twist for the linebaugh, anything else I should be thinking about? Common options?

Well, I called it in. No more SBH hammers also, not available till next year, but the very nice guy I talked to did say testing was going very well so far. Only thing he didn't know is what front sight options are available. Will have to ask again come 2018. See if you guys can beat me in line to get one. Maybe they'd let me pre-order? I shoulda asked...
