Nothing looks better than fancy walnut. Plastic of any type is dead.

I hope everyone knows I've been having fun with this whole thing. My favorite stock material is which ever one is in my hands at the moment. The one thing I make a stand on is to have the stocks fitted to that particular frame.
I suppose you can call Micarta plastic but it is some fine plastic!
Back to the OP: I have no doubt you will love any thing JRH puts on your frame and his walnut is beautiful (I know mine are)! John told me he didn't have (or use?) any white Micarta when I sent mine a few months back so French Walnut it was.
Being a relatively new member still, I have no right to issue commands, but you'll have to post photos when you get it back or the other members will throw rocks at you!

I don't care if you like it or not but micarta is not "plastic". To me, plastic = cheap and micarta is anything but. It's no more "plastic" than stabilized wood or horn. Like these stabilized birch grips. Paper, not plastic. Plastic. Plastic. Plastic.

Thanks for all the replys ,information and opinions all will be given some thought! But as a old carpenter and wood worker the balance is tipped to the wood side.

Micarta has nothing at all in common with plastic. Micarta as in the black double Bisley frames I posted above, is basically made from layers paper and adhesive. It is then bonded under extreme pressure.
As a grip maker, about 95% of the grip sets I've made and sold were beautiful wood. As I said, I've seen a whole lot of beautiful wood. But, Micarta will always have a place in my heart for gun grips.
The only other material that I can say comes very close to being as beautiful as wood can be is rams horn. In fact, in my opinion, it just may lead the way over wood.

I enjoy the texture and colors found in Micarta. It's also tougher than nails.

If you think plastic is cheap, try pricing a Corvette!

If you think plastic is cheap, try pricing a Corvette! Bob Wright They could have been tougher if the built them out of Micarta.

Considering what everything else costs these days, Vettes seem like a bargain. My new Ram 2500 cost $20,000 more than a basic Stingray. Wife's Yukon even higher. I have no problem with what a Vette costs when a friggin' Jeep Wrangler or mid-sized pickup is over $40,000! Thanks to the .gov for printing money and giving it away like it was nothing.

Micarta is just so......so.......so synthetic! Bob Wright I have to agree. I love stag, but there is nothing like a gorgeous select walnut burl!

I love highly burled Turkish Walnut on any metal finish, however I really, really like "white" on stainless. In your case, I would seriously consider Ram's horn or stag, finished smooth (no bark). Makes for a great look . . . . and should hold up very well.
