don't know anything about the 475 Cooper... doing some searching now...
Talked to Mountain Molds yesterday & they are no longer doing any of the heel type bullets... & must have passed on their CAD programs to Accurate Molds. as they recommended I talk to them... which I did yesterday, & they have this mold already in their catalog no special ordering

Bigger meplat than a 45 Colt WFN. That bullet would put a hurt on thin skin game and in theory should outdo the old war horse in the SAA platform. This fact is exactly why I looked at the 480 Achilles and the .50 GI for a New Vaquero build. I have seen some say that it can't accomplish anything more than the .45 Colt, but if we are talking SAA frame size and 6 shot cylinders then the 480 Achilles with 290-310 grain bullets is an interesting improvement with a simple conversion and efficient powder charges. Of course all of this assumes that it shoots accurately.
One of the concerns I had was how to keep lubed bullets clean. Have you considered coating the bullets instead of lubing them? I would love to hear Jim Taylor's opinion on using a powder coat instead of lube.
The more I re-read the old article about the Achilles, I am surprised it did not take off. But I like different strokes than some.

Rooster Jacket.
For general target use you probably wouldn't need to. But for some rounds to carry for any amount of time, wiping them with Rosster Jacket will "seal" them up nicely. I use it on y .310 Cadet bullets and one of two of the things I paper patch for. They've stopped making it.

Just got an e-mail late yesterday, that my barrels have shipped... they were supposed to be 6-7 weeks out, & shipping in a little over a week... I'm liking these guys & gals at Mcgowen & yes... I'd think a powder coated bullet would be perfect for this cartridge...

Looks like 3 week lead time on the bullet molds I ordered yesterday ( pictured above )... both this, & the 25 ACP target "auto" projects are moving ahead very quickly...
Could probably Alox tumble lube to start with... but, what would it take to start messing with powder coat??? I've heard the powder, a cool whip container & a toaster oven could get me started??? I'd think powder coating these outside lubed bullets would be the best... how thick is the coating, & what modifications would be better to make to a future custom mold specifically for powder coating???

received my McGowen barrels last Monday... ( 2 -28" pieces ) 1-3/8" diameter tubes are going to have a lot of metal to remove to get to revolver diameter barrels... rifling looks good though... good thing we're cutting them short, except for the piece I'll be saving for a rifle barrel for my 480 Ruger rifle project now just waiting on machining time... my Target grade "25 Auto project" is in front of the 475 Achilles guns... but those are moving forward rapidly as well... got the design & drawings done for the collett type crimping dies... we will be basically be making those upside down, so the slits in the collett & collett body can be longer than the cartridge... should work out better long term reliability wise than a shorter collett really need to figure out a new hosting site for pictures

Got our bullet molds pictured above, in the mail today... we both just went with a single cavity aluminum mold, since this likely won't be shot too much, & at least until we see if we need a slightly different dimension for a PC bullet??? also got a 480 Ruger Super Blackhawk factory take off barrel a forum member generously offered for sale... expecting thread restrictions... but can cut it shorter than 6.5 inches for the 480 Achilles... progress on this project as well

25 ACP target barrels are machined... so the 480's are moved to the machine shop... these won't actually be "the" 480 Achilles, as we'll be using full length 45 Colt cases, since we're building on Rugers instead of Colts ( Cylinders can be longer ) we already have the custom heal seated bullet molds ( 2 )... buddy will be casting up a couple 100 just so we know what the throats should be when converting the 45 Colt cylinders... already have a couple 480 barrels here to cut down for this project... the 2 we are building are both on blued Blackhawks, & will be 6 shot 480's when we're done... we talked about the possibility of doing an extra 5 shot 480 Ruger cylinder that would time & interchange with the 6 shot 480 Achilles cylinder... buddy thinks he can do that ... 480 Ruger cylinder would be new manufacture unfluted cylinder & the Achilles would be existing fluted 45 Colt cylinders ( so it would be easy to tell them apart )... of course this means I'd need to buy a 480 Ruger chamber reamer... but that was always in my mind anyway, as I'd like a companion rifle for my 480 Revolvers if this works, it'll get me a blued 5 shot 4 5/8" 480 Ruger ( non Bisley ) & a 6 shot 480 "special" in the form of an Achilles "type" gun...

The hand in the lockwork is longer for a 5 shot cylinder vs a 6 shot cylinder I believe..... you have to throw the 5 shot further..... unless you would be changing the lockwork everytime you changed cylinders........ I think 😉

I am intrigued. I love the Achilles idea, but it would be amazing to be able to switch to 5 shot as well. I hope your machinist buddy can figure out the ratchet configuration to make that work.

He's done several custom centerfire revolvers with from 5 shot to 8 shot cylinders for me for other calibers... he's the one that mentioned he thought he could make the 5 & 6 work with the same lockwork... ( I hadn't even considered it ) he has some proprietary cylinder tooling he's made up for building & timing cylinders... perhaps he can make up the difference in length, in the ratchet diameter, or the cut somehow??? but if it doesn't work, it doesn't... but it sure would be cool if it does
