one of our employees, Rick, took his son across the inlet to a friends bait station for black bear this weekend. His 12 year old son, with the great name Hunter, got a big black bear squaring 6 feet 1 inch...and as they were taking a picture Hunter exclaimed ' Dad! behind you !!' and an even bigger bear , squaring 6 feet 10" walked right up to them....Rick employed his marlin 45/70 to good effect-- father and son both got the pictures then: a day later at the same spot, the bait station owners daughter, barely 10 years old, go this grizzly using her 308 [ don't tell the bears they are only using 308s, it probably wouldn't work any more ] : these alaskan kids don't even know how good they have it up here !!

That's awesome good for dad taking the kids out. When I coached high school football I would take my players hog hunting . We also would go on a camping trip . For a lot of those kids that was the only out door experience they had. And they will remember it there hole life.

Many of us here in the lower 48 would love to be able to do that. But,,, at least we can smile & know that the future is in those pics! I love it all!!!!!!

Yup, hope for the future, unless your a bear..! yes, the bears do a lot of damage to the moose and caribou population but sometimes i can't help but feel a bit sorry for them......hogs and gators etc -- not so much !

This is great! Glad to see someone up here got the bait out this year!
Coloradoyaler and I had been planning all winter to set up in a spot I've been seeing griz but with my knee surgery, cold April lots of snow left in the hills, and some things coming up on his end we didn't make it. It takes quite a bit of planning and work to stay on top of the bait. Here in the Interior yesterday was that last day for Griz but it's open for blackies year round. Baiting is open until the end of June.
