I like sheephorn with some of the bark left on. Picked up a couple scales and figured I'd try my hand at grip making. This is the first and only pair I will ever make. They still need to be sanded to 2000 grit and polished with white rouge. Also need to order a screw and estucheon. (Anyone have one for sale?) but here is the finished to that point pic! They are for a Bisley Vaquero

Looking good! You could do a blind screw on the right panel for a cleaner look since you're at that point anyway. I haven't done bisley grips, but that radius around the frame I imagine is very difficult to fit.

That is a great idea!!! I will look into how to do it!!
It was a long slow process. I used the original grips to make a template on paper, cut it out, and traced it to the backside of the scale so I could get darn close with my initial cuts. Then went to the use a dremel in a vice, a belt sander/disc sander combo, a pneumatic wheel with green scrubby type abrasive on it. Lots of pencil marks, sanding, checking, pencil marks, checking, sanding.....even a hacksaw to thin them down to allow the bark to be left on.

hmmm... I just bought a 480 Bisley... those would look great on... wish I had the time to play... I like what Zane did with the set he has for sale right now, that were too thin... by adding the black micarta gave the grips a lot of color depth...

Those look great! Though not for a blind screw, I do have an extra brownells screw/ estucheon package. PM me your address and I'll send them to you.

looking good Rob.
if I may make a suggestion. i'd get the grip screw hole drilled before you do much more sanding. it's easier to drill a straight hole when they aren't rounded. plus on the off chance there's any tear out you may be able to sand it all out before reaching your desired thickness.
when you do drill the hole make sure you have something flat underneath the grips where the bit will come out. this will help stop most if not all tear out.

Fine work Rob! Lots of patience tedious work required. Looking forward to seeing the finished stocks on your revolver.

I started tinkering with making grips for myself several years ago. I used different pieces of CHEAP wood to learn things before I'd tackle anything exotic. Locator pin holes, grip screw holes etc all should be done early on,,, before serious finish work is done. THose look pretty darn good for a first set.

My fast draw Rugers have screwless grips. The grip pannels are attached with a good contact cement. To remove. I carefully cut them off. Has worked well so far.
