After sighting in a few other guns and working with my FA 83 in 44mag (now shooting great with the 2.5x9 Leupold!) I did a three shot group with the No 3. 180 grain XTP, three shot group, shot into 1.25 in at 100 yards off the tailgate of my truck. I'm not the best with a rifle nor was the rest optimal, so I'll make a couple of tweaks to the setup and set aside some time to practice.

I just picked up a nice little #3. I have to start thinking about calibers... I have a 475 Linebaugh in s single shot that Clements built. And come to think of it I do have a factory 357 max H&R in the back of the safe. Pistol caliber rifles are a lot of fun.

My 336 heads out tomorrow to become a 356. I'll be honest, I am a little excited to see how it turns out.

JES's web sight says $225 for 3 groove and $250 for 4 or 5 groove. Which did you guys go with? Ron

I let him pick the twist and grooves. Figured he knows what he's doing.
Mine is 3 groove. From what I've read 5 groove isn't really better and having an odd number of grooves seems to impart better accuracy. I'm sure there are plenty on the forum here that can give you a more authoritative answer in the likely case I'm mistaken.

Following this with great interest! One of my biggest gun mistakes (there have been many) was to trade away a Contender with a 10" 357 Max bull barrel! Probably the best shooter of any of 300 or so handguns I've owned in the last half century plus. Have looked for another but unable to find one. Can find Contender actions with the select fire firing pins but not the barrels.
Had three Ruger #3s. One in 22Hornet, one in 223 and one in 45-70. The 45-70 with a 350 grain slug at 1950 was a beast! Always wanted one in 30-40 Krag! I currently own a Ruger 77/357 carbine and it's a fun gun to shoot. Keep it loaded with 180 slugs and it is a handy carbine.
Would love to see a pic of your #3.

Went to go pick up my 336 I had JES convert to 356 win and got delayed on the background check. Damn that sucks.
