So if you've come this far in this thread then you are waaayyyy to bored and should really get a hobby. Thanks for the time!
Paul, hanging with sixgun guys IS the hobby! Especially the ones that won't quit !!!
I thought your post was excellent. Just one thing if I may, you can indeed get a precise sight picture with a snubby. It's right there in front of you!! :-)

I wonder, what is the official barrel length that defines a snubby? I mean compared to some of sixshot's revolvers a 5.5" barrel could be considered a snubby. ;-)

Just ask ME what defines snubby. As soon as Sixshot sees that he is going to direct a "short" joke at ME. Course, ole Sixshot is about as slow as his reloads so it might be awhile....

Haha! Guess I made a short joke and didn't know it. Sorry Fermin but don't feel bad, I'm only 5'8". JUST BARELY!

If they had only put even a remedial rear sight on them.. I took mine out yesterday and shot it..some wadcutters and some 180gr Mihec. I have to guess where the sights are unless it's overcast. The front sight looks like fog over the barrel. I tried some flat black model paint on them, but that soon glosses up. I love the gun, hate the sights. When my eyes were a bit younger, I was able to hit hedgeapples (think softballs) at 40 yds fairly regular with this same gun. I don't have the same problem with my 1911's. Woe is me...

Mr. bagdadjoe- Agreed about the sight picture! I replaced the front sight with a fluorescent one and also like you painted the rear sight area black and this does help. I may have to try to get some type of rear sight structure machined into the revolver however; this problem with the sight picture not being very clear puzzles me as to why Ruger did this.

Not only the sights but the trigger issues...I had a Wolfe spring kit put in today...Could not get the 10# spring to light all 6 up but the 12# did feel far better than factory...

This is my guess as to fixed sights on some SP101's. The fixed sight models are considered down and dirty up close fighting tools. They aren't intended as precision shooting instruments. During a sudden attack, which is how most attacks happen, the vast majority of people that are able to "skin that smoke wagon" are not going to be paying a bit of attention to the sights. Most people will follow the will of their bodies. Meaning that the body has a natural reaction to sudden and violent attacks including your eyes. Your eyes will naturally focus on the threat and if you're fortunate enough to get to your snubby during an attack yours eyes ain't gonna take the time to line up sights. BUT as Fermin said it is entirely possible to get a proper sight picture with a belly gun. I don't know about y'all but I carry my 3" SP for self defense. I don't carry it in case I want to go deer huntin after work or for a friendly silhouette match on Saturday. There is a butt load more analogies, comparisons and points that can be made but y'all are fart smellers uh I mean smart fellers and you don't need little ole me pointing out the obvious. Good Shootin, Paul

I'll leave the fart smelling to to you...that should only be attempted by experienced experts. I would like a set of sights like the ones they put on the Wiley Clapp...which, by the way has an even shorter barrel than my big 3 inch. Wonder why it's a good idea if he does it?? Wouldn't have hurt Ruger to do the same with a production gun. GP100's with 3" barrels as well as many others even have adjustable sights...it's not odd or unusual. The Sp101 would make a fine small game getter and deer would not be out of the question either at short distance. People use sticks with strings on them to send little pointy sticks through deer and kill them..I bet it could be done with a gun at the same distance. ;-)

Lol, I've done lots of fart smelling. You hang around with a bunch of modern day cromagnons long enough it's gonna happen. Hey, if you wanna go deer huntin with a 3" revolver more power to ya it ain't something I'd do on purpose.
