I've always admired the looks of the old Colt cap-and-ball revolvers, especially the 1860 Army and 1862 Navy guns. But never wanted to get into black powder shooting. And the 1872 Open Top always looked n ice to me, but then I was into the .44 Magnum and heavy .45 Colt stuff. Age has taken its toll on me and now I'm likely to be shooting moderate .44 Specials or milder .45 Colt ammunition. So, I decided I'd try one of those Cimarron/Uberti Open Top revolvers. Now on order from Cimarron is this "1872 Open Top Navy": This is a .38 Special, and not really a replica of any revolvers as the Open Tops were .44 Henry only. But I'm not interested in historical accuracy, just a plinker/paper puncher. And I've already loaded up some .38 Special -P loads for this thing. I'm hoping maybe before Christmas, but that seems unlikely. And I've already posed the question elsewhere whether that should be written -P or -p.Bob Wright

Very good. I've got five Uberti revolvers in my collection. I've yet to be disappointed in one. Betting you won't be either.

Nice choice, I've admired several of those at local cowboy shoots.

Sure looks nice try a good .38 Special wadcutter load they are fun, accurate, & pretty good small game getters too. They'll shoot litty bitty groups, I'm betting you will be happy with your Uberti too! Cimarron guns are very well made, enjoy!

I always thought the Colt percussion guns were elegant and graceful. Had an Italian .36 Navy years ago that I liked. Still have an itch for a 3rd model Dragoon.

Oh how I love open top Colts!! I bet you're going to LOVE that one! Here's a pic of my Italian 1860 Army with a 45 Colt conversion cylinder and a few other little modifications. I've been banging the idea around of adding a gated Kirst cylinder and maybe a few other little thing to this one.

that's interesting... the rear sight is mounted on the barrel... I opted to keep the hammer sight on my pair of 51's... I get a longer sight radius, but the slight wiggle of the hammer... I get very acceptable accuracy, but not "best accuracy of any gun" suspect the barrel mounted rear sight helps... I also opted for 38 Long Colt chambering... guessing you're going to love this gun...

Any updates? Anxiously awaiting a range report on this one I got an email from Cimarron yesterday telling me they had four of these on order and are expecting them any day now. Bob Wright

Bob:
What a great choice for a beautiful vintage-style Colt revolver!
You are going to really enjoy it from both an aesthetics and shooting standpoint!
Merry Christmas!
