I have always loved the pistol grip Winchester lever guns, be it 64's, 71's, 53 deluxes or 65's. I found a nice Browning 53 and picked it up today. I know it's not a Winchester but it's darn close. And honestly, even though Winchester offered the 53 in a deluxe package with the pistol grip stock, I have never seen one. I've only ever seen the straight grip 53's. So with the new rifle, 500 rounds of Starline brass and some 90, 115, 125 and 135 grain Montana Bullet Works cast bullets, I'm ready for some load development and some range time. Have to head back east for a week but as soon as I get home it's on. The photo doesn't do the wood justice. When I get a nice day with good light I'll shoot some better pics.

AWESOME Score!!! Wow!....That's a B E A U T Y to! I'm Super jealous She's gonna be PURE JOY All Around. Nice n Ez on the loading components to. That's one of the reasons I love my little Marlin 1894CL 25-20. You can load n shoot until your fingers bleed and, you haven't even touched a pound of powder. I think I figured about 2200-2300+ rounds (@ iirc 3gr's? roughly) to a pound of Universal ya GOTTA LOVE THAT!!! Enjoy and, please do post a RR and, those good light pics BigBore44

Thanks guys. I'm pretty pleased with it. It has been drilled and tapped and wears a Lyman 66 receiver sight.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty pleased with it. It has been drilled and tapped and wears a Lyman 66 receiver sight. That Lyman makes it even better! Great find, let us know how it runs.

Streaker, make a couple of dummy 90 gr first to try. I've got 3 '73's,,, 2 originals, 1 replica. The 90grs came out to short, and wouldn't cycle properly, the others all work fine kept to proper OAL. Just reading this kind of late, hope it helps. Nice looking piece,,,,,,,, lucky you ! Good shooting, Isom

I haven't got to shoot it yet. I got to the range yesterday but just to conduct some quals for a couple of guys at work. It was pretty cold (0) and I decided not to stick around any longer than necessary. I know, what a wimp. It's supposed to be nicer next week and I'll take my insulated bibs as well.

I was able to get to the range just before I left for the slope. The little rifle really shoots well. I tried some light loads with 3 grains of Unique under each bullet. It was too dark to get a good chronograph reading but they all should be running around 100fps. I wanted to try some Trailboss but couldn't find any locally. I finally found a five pounder and bought it but not in time for me to doing any testing before I left for the slope. The H110 and Lil Gun loads showed a lot of promise with all the bullets. The Lil Gun turned in a little higher velocities but overall H110 gave better accuracy. The target below is representative of the better groups at 50 yards. Yes, that flyer is shooter error. I'm going to try some Trailboss loads when I get home. I'm looking for kind of a mouse flatulence load to have in my pocket for rabbits and ptarmigan and keep the higher velocity loads for foxes and such when I get a chance to get out calling or snowshoeing.
