Very nice Glenn! Especially for the year. The fired case envelope says that Jorge Baptista fired that round on November 9, 2013 and based on what I can find on the serial number 2013 looks correct. Sorry Craig if you wanna make a trip to central Florida I'll be glad to have you shoot mine. He can then pass through KS and shoot this one. Hey Glenn, where abouts in Kansas are you? I was born in Wichita 51 years ago. I grew up in Kentucky with my dad but I have some family out there. My dad met my mom out there while he was in the Air Force. When I joined the Navy way back when, his advice to me was to never fall in love with the girls around the base. And I didn't but I found out years later that apparently there's hard case girls everywhere not just around military bases. :-)

I travel through Wichita routinely. We have been here almost 9 years now which blows my mind.

I had a very nice fixed sight High Power from the 60's, that was in FIL's collection, that I mulled over & made the stupid decision to trade off... one of my few regrets with what I did, when I built his collection into mine... he just had too many 9mm guns, & I thought I should diversify a bit more...
you guys aren't making me feel very good about myself today...

Bear with me, there's a little story. Sometimes I'm in the right place at the right time. Yesterday was one of those times. I took the day off from work for two reasons. One, I hadn't had a day off in about 2 months and I had a doctors appointment at noon. After my appointment I decided I'd go visit a good friend who just happens to own a small gun shop nearby. When he first opened his shop 5 years ago he had the run of the mill new gun shop fodder. Stuff like old military rifles, low end handguns and cheap holsters. Slowly but surely he has worked that little shop into a haven for fine handguns, rifles and shotguns. He now deals in Cabot, Republic Forge and Wilson Combat 1911's, high end AR's and fine production shotguns from Benelli. I can't afford much of what comes into his place now but he lets me run my calloused old hands over them and day dream. Yesterday was my lucky day in his shop. I walked in and started looking and lo and behold in one of the cases sat an almost new Browning Hi Power that he took on trade toward a Wilson 1911. I asked if I could look at it and of course he couldn't get to it fast enough. It has the nice deep Browning blue. Not the typical epoxy paint job that comes on many of them. Very nice and milled adjustable rear sight and the best part was when I dry fired it. It had the most buttery smooth crisp trigger I've ever felt on a Hi Power. And the annoying magazine safety had been removed. I asked who did the trigger and to my surprise it was done by a local gunsmith from a different gun shop. Of course there was no build sheet accompanying the pistol. So after work today I stopped by that gun shop and talked to the smith himself. He told me the work he did to it and said he had been doing Hi Power trigger work for years. I believe him as you have to feel this thing to believe it. The extra holes in the slide, he said, is where he removes the stock lever or bar in the slide and mills a custom part to replace it while moving the fulcrum to a more optimum position to provide a much smoother action. He said you have to be ok with the extra holes to get that trigger. I'm very ok with them. So I sent Mr. Barranti an email today asking him to put me in line for and Urban Defender fully carved with dyed background for this pistol. It deserves such a holster. Of course I'll be ordering a Simply Rugged Defcon model for non BBQ wear. Could you share the Smiths name? PM if you want. I need some work done on an alloy framed Hi Power.

I am a huge Hi-Power fan. My EDC is a 1911 but I lusted over some of the Novak/Robar/Cylinder and Slide etc., customs. When I retired from the navy I found a nice Israeli surplus MKIII. I sent it off to Novak's and had the full meal deal done. Took 6 months and I am very happy with the result. It came with G-10 stocks but I switched them out for Spegel cocobolo.

Got some Simply Rugged (Defcon 3 model) love in the mailbox today for the Hi Power. I ordered this holster 10-27 and it was in my hands today. 9 days for quality custom leather, that's great service in my book. Will be sending Mr. B (Barranti) some milk money next week to keep my place in line for his Urban Companion rig for this pistol. Fully carved and dyed background of course. Sunday go to meetin' rig and a workin' rig. This Hi Power will be spoiled. Especially after Cylinder & Slide gets done with it. You might notice the top of the flab tab on the back of the holster has an unfinished edge. That's because I cut a bit of the top off so I can get a full grip on the pistol. I'm sure if I asked, SR would modify that at my request but it's a carry rig so I don't mind cutting it myself and a bit of a raw edge.
