I just swapped for another mid frame 41 only this one is a FA. I want to see what it does with 265 grain cast bullets in 41 Special brass just for grins and giggles. The last FA 41 I had was a model 83 and it was a tank! This little 97 ought to be a bunch lighter. Is there some logical reason for using 41 Special brass vs just deep seating in 41 Mag brass using Special load data? If the OAL is the same I don't see any advantage to shorter brass, AND you'll have the crud ring to deal with. Am I missing something here?

Not particularly, I just like crimping into the crimp groove rather than deep seat. Who knows, it may not work!

I ask partly because I'm going to try some 220gr Deep seated Keith's with 5.5gr of Unique tonight in my 41 Mag 97

The 41 Special looks to be a waste on the mid frame gun... How about a 5 shot 410GNR and a 41 mag?

Got the 41 mag mid frame and have no desire to play with the GNR rounds. Different strokes I guess Stan.

The 41 Spl will cost you at least a couple of grand to squeeze it into a OM Single Six so I'd say the the mid frame is just about right for it.
