I bought this Super Blackhawk I do not know how long ago from I don't know who. I think from the Ruger forum. 3 screw, 5 1/2" barrel, updated base pin, chrome ejector rod thumb spur(or whatever it is called). Although still heavy, it makes a great backup/packing pistol for me. Shoots great, but since we don't have hogs, grizzly, lion, or any other 'dangerous' game besides 2 leggers and feral dogs, it doesn't get a chance to get out much. Just thought i'd share

Looks nice! Never thought about using a chrome ejector rod on a blue gun.

Get some 185 gr. double ended wad cutters from Penn and some low doses of a fast powder like BullsEye or TiteGroup......These low recoil loads still pack plenty of punch and guarenty plenty of smiles. good shooting
Edit to say these loads work better in 44 S&W Special cases......

I love the 45 colt found and see it as a do all caliber in the Ruger. From mice to moose it will handle it all

That 44 mag looks good. I bought a similar type gun a few years back. A custom job where they'd cut back the barrel, added a factory brass g/f, and reblued it all etc. A sweet package, that I swapped the g/f out & added a NM stainless Bisley g/f, and a stainless ERH. It didn't need a base pin.

I had one looked just like that only with two slots cut in the barrel. (mag-na-port). First gun I ever owned with a nice trigger job. I think the first round I fired is probably still orbiting the earth. I was NOT ready for that light trigger pull. It was a great gun but I let a friend talk me out of it. He later used the gun to pay a bill without telling me. I would have gladly given him the money to get my gun back but oh well........... Always thought I'd have another one made up just like it but haven't as of yet. As Robster's title says, it makes a nice packing pistol. Dan

I have a friend that wants to buy it. Now I have shot it, and have a Doc shuck that it fits great in, but don't carry it. The thought of selling crossed my mind, but then sanity prevailed. First, it would cost more to replace it than I could sell it for. Second, It IS unconverted. Third, it's not eating anything in the safe. Fourth, I'm absolutely sure I would have buyers remorse if I sold it. Fifth, I love the looks of it.....and it will be the perfect packing pistol for when my son goes to school and I move out to Wyoming or Montana or Idaho.
Guess I better hang on to it!!!!!

Rob It definitely sounds like you best keep it. That last reason is good enough, and maybe when the day comes that you move you'll be glad you kept it. I like the areas you mentioned moving to and one day I hope to do the same.

Well, I also think about New Mexico, Utah, Arizona and Nevada. Trying to stay away from any state that touches the Pacific and Colorado. WAAYY to liberal for me. That's what I am trying to escape. It'd be like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
BB44, we'll have to get together and do some Handgun hunting. Both here and when we both move out west!!!

Sure thing. Yeah I Totally Understand your reasoning! The way things are controlled here is maddening and down right Wrong! I curse it everyday for one reason or the other... I just want to be left alone, with my Iron's, powder & lead Ray

I like your thinking!!! Untill you get to move (we do have grizzlys here) you can load that nice gun down a bit & enjoy it while getting good use out of it. You can load the .44 Mag. down to .44 Special velocities & have a milder load that'll still do about 90% of what a six-gun really needs to do. If you don't reload heck there are .44 Special loads on the market & it'll be like shooting .38s in a .357. Give that nice gun a chance & it'll please you! Let us know, but hang onto that nice gun!
