Just bought a Colt 44-40 Single Action with a 4 3/4" barrel Serial # is SA916XX All blued, original wood grips.
What is it? A New Frontier? Year of manufacture? I looked on the Colt site and got no hits off the Serial #.
It is in real nice condition and got it for a song so I am just trying to figure out what I bought.
Thanks for the help!

Cant believe a guy could buy a Colt and not know what it is. For one its a 3rd gen gun by the number, likely mid to late 80's. Its also a New Frontier, which uses NF in the number.

For the condition of it and what i paid, it is simply an awesome Single action revolver. Bonus......its a Colt.
There is no NF in the number. Just SA. All blued. ERH is flush to the end of the barrel. Wood grips with Colt medallion.

Yeah, got sidetracked on that. Duh, no NF, its a SAA. Meant to say its NOT a NF.

All blue Colt SAAs without the color case hardened frame are relatively unusual, but they are usually not worth as much as one the the cased frame. Makes no difference as a shooter and if you got a good deal it's still sweet. How does it shoot?

When you say "permit", is that just an owner permit or a carry permit? Do you live in the city or out of it? Always amazes me how some states are so much more restrictive than my own, WA. I have a carry license, and with that, the state waiting period is waived, so its cash and carry, assuming a NICS pass.

I have a carry permit. I live 5 hours from the city up by Lake Ontario and the Canadian border.
NY State pistol permit has all the handguns you own listed on it. make model caliber and serial #. you are only allowed to be in possession of your handguns (the ones listed on your permit).

Exactly F**K NY, That's why I live in TX now. $3.00 to put a gun on, $3.00 to take one off, draw a line through it. Money hungry NY, soon you pay to go number 1 or 2 at a public toilet on the thruway. I always bought my handguns 90% of the time at gunshows so I could buy have it put on and take it home. I hated going to the county clerk office then back to the gun shop. You live in Rottenchester? That's where I was from the lake and the bay where down the street from me. Only things I miss in NY are the woods and the mountains and maybe Seneca Niagara casino(American side) of the falls.

Im in the Sorrycuse area. Hopefully after my son graduates in 3 years I can escape from NY.
I do like fishing Lake O and hunting the farm country where i live and the ADK's which are only 2.5 hours away.

Yep like I said the only thing I'll miss about NY, I hunted Happy Valley a few times over the years, Old Forge area as well, early bear season. In TX the deer are much smaller and you have to put up feeders most of the time to bring them around unless you have a garden, not like NY huge whitetails on avg, and there everywhere. But in TX I hunt year round for most game and more that in NY had crappy seasons or aren't there, also I shoot coyotes all the time at my house, even right off my porch, in NY they are much tough to hunt bigger and smarter, but we didn't have hogs like here, their fun year round anytime!!!!!!!!!!!!!
