I believe I would go for the 44 mag. I really enjoy shooting that cartridge.

I would get the 41 magnum & never look back. I've had a lot of experience with that caliber & with correct bullets (230-250 gr.) it will handle anything in the lower 48 & do it end to end. As John Taffin & others have stated its the most accurate gun they have ever fired & the recoil is at a level where most anyone, man or woman can shoot it with ease. The barrel length I'd have to think about because my tastes have changed over the years from the longer barrels to barrels in the 5 1/2" range mostly.
I know all the other calibers are bigger, badder, more power, flame, & you can pound your chest more with the big boys but when the smoke clears the 41 makes sense. The 44 will always be my favorite but if I were getting another Freedom Arms it would be a model 83 in 41 magnum, no question. Just my opinion.

I've got two 454's and one JRH custom 475, but I voted for the 44 mag. Ammo is easy to get or load for and there is nothing that it won't handle. I think a M83 44 mag may possibly be the best "do it all" handgun one could acquire. I would get it with a 6" barrel.

41 or 44 because I already reload those two calibers, and I don't really enjoy big recoil.
I've found both the 41 and 44 to be nice and accurate and cover all my needs very well.

I voted for .454, but i would only fire .45 colt from it. I already have a 44 i bought used, because i was familiar and comfortable with it. I dont hunt and dont need a bigger bore.

I bought my first one in .454, would likely get a .500 or .475 if I bought another.

I bought a 454 around cristmas and I think it is the most versital caliber if you need top end,but I would trade it for a 44 mag in the same configuration.

My choice would be either the 454 or the 475.
With a added versatility of shooting the 45 colt with the 454 Or the 480 Ruger if the 475 Linebaugh was chosen.

I would have picked the 44, but I already have one, so the next logical choice for me would be the 475. Of course the 357 mag would be a nice option.

Me too. Several suppliers of 475 Linebaugh and 480 Ruger brass. The 500 WE is very limited. Not really crazy about how and why it was developed. Just my options of course. To each his own.

I voted for the 44 mag. It's done it all and can still do it from here on out.... That's my thoughts on it. I may get something bigger than my 454 SRH, but as of now I just don't seem to see any reason to besides my Want's for a 480... Heck, I don't use more than 45 Colt's in that even, and I have more 44's than anything else, and just added a nice little Bisley Flattop that I think is gonna be the new do it all for me... That's my $.02 BigBore44 P.S. I've wanted a FA for quite awhile now, but I think if I do get one it'll be either a FA 83, 44 mag, or a 97, 44 spl...?

Why I posed this question.... well a few years ago I was in the pipetrades and we were made to have a personal retirement account. I was sent notice this week that the trustees will allow a termination benefit after two years of leaving the trades... and ive been gone for 2 1/2. Well... I will be closing mine out. Now I have a 30 carbine 3 screw blackhawk undergoing some "work" and it will stay 30 caliber although might not be 30 carbine. I also have a flattop 3 screw 357 thats ready to eventually become a 41 magnum with some custom work done to it. And I have always wanted a Freedom Arms revolver.I know I want at least a 7 1/2 to 10 inch barrel as I do enjoy (when I get to do it) shooting distances exceeding 100 yds. The caliber choice though has me scratching my head. I hope to eventually do some hunting outside the lower 48 but will be doing so primarily in the lower 48 . Just not sure at this point as Ive always wanted a 475.... although I had alot of fun with the 454 casull when I had one and always wanted to stretch it out... and several conversations with Mr Thompson has me very interested in the 41 mag.... what to do what to do lol... and a kicker is im not willing to wait to order a new one in any caliber.... sounds stupid but ive waited long enough to get to this point

I went with the .44Mag when I bought my 83 a few months ago. I had sold a bunch of guns and had the cash so I figured I could buy a FA with no guilt as I handed the wife even more cash than the FA cost me. I went with .44 because it truly can do it all, I can handle the recoil just fine, components are available everywhere. The model 83 is rated at darn near twice the pressure of the .44Mag so the odds of wearing anything out are pretty slim. I also value JT's opinion a great deal: www.sixguns.com/BookOfThe44/bot44c34.htm
