Sorry, but I've no interest in the Dan's. Had friends with the pistol pak 357's and a buddy with a shot loose well worn 445. I do retain some interest in a 480 Alaskan just because..I know it'll be another jump in weight up from the M629. So, have the M629 4" holstered on right now, full of spec hulls with 255WFN's on 7grs of Unique. A load I like in the newish 44spec Ruger S.A's. I would not shoot these in the Bulldog, a close call I know.

The 'Smith has tighter chambers than my Rugers and the Bulldog. A Hornady 265gr SP would not go thru even with a push from a pencil. I've always preferred Hornady jacketed for when I want jacketed, and they have always worked in my Rugers. Hmmnnn..

With a belt that has a stiffener, worn snug, the extra weight so far...no issue. A long day of chasing trout or scouting for deer, grouse, well, we'll see. A further plus, this would be a ca h deal, 'tween aquaintenances, no pa erw rk. Dod eing se sors ya know. Kinda making sense to get the more shootable version, and later getting the extreme packable version. This website is starting to get expensive !

Ok, the wife, bless her heart, just asked me if I was packing the bigger 'Smith. Um, yes, why ? She said she could tell because that leg of short pants was lower than usual, compared to left leg. She has been taught to notice stuff like that. She WAS paying attention, I am a happy man right now. When we are out, we play the who do you think is packing game. She is getting GOOD !

The M69 is still in the running. I cannot discount that it fits my hand size better, and a bit lighter than the Mtn gun version of the M29/629's. Sigh..

The 69 is a great gun. But then I like the 29 4 inch also. Didn't care for the 329, it went down the road. To me a little heavier gun is a non issue with the right holster and belt to carry. Definitely need to wear a big boy belt.

Still have friends M629 4" here, am taking it today to compare to the M69 sitting at a LGS looking quite lonely. Bulldog will be on board. Getting closer to a decision. Heard last night at work that union/company has knocked together some kinda proposal and we'll have meetings and vote this week. Guess they got tired of sitting around the pool with umbrella drinks. So have to have my mind made up by the time the ink dries. If a signing bonus carrot on stick in the offer, gun easily covered. If not, OT slush/strike fund will cover it. Fingers crossed. hard to type this way.

Ok, home from the days adventure. After-action report time. I'm liking the way the M69 fits my hand, and hand size, better. Slightly easier reach to trigger for DA shooting. Easier and more natural to use cylinder release button. I can see that a different front sight may have to happen. A thinner F/O Dawson has been recommended, taller too if wanted available.

It is coming down to a couple of issues. Just in from some lawn mowing, JD tractor. The lil Bulldog on board as always. So, to upgrade the Bulldog, but not feel burdened. To have another round available. Then, shootability. One makes the M329PD a clear choice, the other has me leaning towards the M69. I am fairly certain of one thing, likely neither a bad choice ! Slather me in some logic and help me out here ! bulasteve, for the reasons I've given about shooting the 329, & your wanting to pack it mowing, picking up trash, the 329 woud be easy to carry. I'd load it with good .44 Specials 90% of the time & for those times you really need the extra power it'd be there. I think most of us need milder loads most of the time anyway & the .44 Special at mid 800s would be pretty pleasant to shoot in the 329. I'd take the 329 WAY above the 69, bulk being the ONLY downside & another round in the cylinder erases that. Good shooting.

Steve I think you should go trade that 4" 629 in on the 69 LOL! I have a 6" 29-2 (Dirty Harry's gun) and its a Great gun. It was my 2nd handgun (1st was Single Six) and 1st centerfire handgun purchased. Ive owned it since 97 and ive handled/carried/shot it Quite a bit. I do like that 69 thiugh simply because it feels really good in my hand. Its also smaller dimensions lend itself to be easier to conceal, plus less weight to tote around. 5 vs 6 dont bother me fir my uses, even for CCW. I wouldnt sell/trade my 29 for the 69 but, i wouldnt have an issue sharing holster time between the two! So Both is the Correct answer, Again As Usual!!! Ha.... Have you tried and RL's in this loaner yet? Surely must be some flyin, hoppin, creepin crawlin critters around that need Whackin with some RL's!!!?!? Get After'em! Need collateral report afterwards! Go forth my brother and, perforate some vermin! BigBore44

Well, again, the M629 is not mine. A loan with owner hopeful I'll buy it. I did not foresee either the contract talks to go so long, but since I can't seem to make up my mind, not so bad I guess. Reality is the work concerns are way more serious, and I haven't been attacked by a herd of polar bears in months.. Buying the M629, slightly used, from a friend will be the cheapest option, and I'm sure a workable solution too. The heaviest of the bunch will be the most shootable. Have shot the gun with factory loads and certainally even being the heaviest, it kicks ! The M69 fits my hand better than the N frame options, and is in the middle, weight-wise. I keep re-reading thru all of your posts, allowing the opinions and thoughts to blend, merge, into some kinda wisdom. As Bartles and James used to say.."Thank You for your support !".

However this works out in the end, you need the 629 anyway, just because. You know.
