Comparing an MP-5 to an Uzi, is like comparing a Corvette to a F-250. They both have four wheels. The Uzi is just about bullet proof (see what I did there?), while the MP-5 is silky smooth, and hugs the curves. The big heavy open bolt on the Uzi makes it reliable, but there is a lot of mass moving around. The MP-5 being a locked breech with a much lighter bolt, is much smoother and more controllable. The Uzi was what all of the other subguns were compared to for reliability. The Secret Service used a shorter barrel Uzi for Executive Protection, so they must have been good for something.
The MP-5 didn't come to the public's attention till the Iranian Embassy siege. That's where the SAS (Who Dares Wins) used them on their raid to good affect. The early eighties brought both of those iconic subguns to the general public's attention.
Bob Wanko with his Uzi.
Mobjack Liking both the MP-5 and the Uzi. Oh for the good ole days before the Hughes Amendment.

In case anyone hasn't seen the first major use of the MP-5.
The SAS (Special Air Service) using the MP-5.

My brother kept an MP5 in the trunk of his unmarked when he was the SWAT Commander for his department. I got to shoot it a couple times but the concept of rapid projectile dispersal into a general area never did much for this “aim oriented” guy. The gun definitely has its place though.

I have a grand total of ONE magazine through an MP5. It was on the clock in a multi gun match.. Same match, different year, we got to fire an HK UMP. I picked it up and thought... "It's a toy! What a piece of junk!" After I fired it I thought... That's a really cool piece of junk."

forged this the other day. I modeled the handle section after my Dads screwdriver and then pinned in a jigsaw blade. it's intended use is to clean out hidden tang knife handles.

Twin Lakes Recreation Area, near Odessa Washington. Mule deer near Soap Lake, WA. Not one of 'em legal to shoot, dammit.
