Right now a couple of my top choices are 7-30 Waters ( I already load for a Conteder pistol barrel for 7-30 with pointed bullets )... & the 357 Max, as it could be a companion rifle to the Contender, or Dan Wesson revolver I have...
if Hornady would do a run of the special bullets, I might consider the 22 Savage Hi power, but I didn't realize when I listed that before, that the bullets were special diameter... might also make finding a barrel blank more troublesome

I have a couple of Winchester 94s in that caliber and am really impressed. would likely be even better out of the martini

I can see this since the 7-30 waters is such a good cartridge, but I was hoping for the 25-35 that cable had suggested in an earlier post. A 26" tube on the Martini would be a wonderful little setup. Unless your area calls for a short barreled rifle... Course it is yours, and I do understand that sometimes it seems easier to not have to purchase new dies and components. Whatever you do it will be something to have fun with.

another option I'm looking at, is the 225 Winchester... but the 7-30 Waters is looking like a front runner, being truely a Prairie Dog to Deer capable cartridge, when handloaded to the specific type of use...

For me the Zipper, Wasp and Waters would be the top three options with the 7-30 the leader because I'm a 7mm fan but I think it would simply depend on which suitable barrel showed up first. The Max is a great idea in a Cadet but I don't see it being as handy in a large frame. But that's just my humble opinion. I would also be interested in a .25/303 or 6.5/303. I passed on a 6.5/303 with brass and dies 10-12 years ago at a show because I'd never heard of it. Went back the next day after reading up on it and the seller's table was empty. I had the single shot bug under control...I have GOT to quit opening your threads....

CAS... funny you mention the 577... I already have a set of dies, & a box of new cases of 577 Snider... I've wanted a "modern strength" 577 Snider for a while... trouble is finding a barrel blank of the right bore & at a reasonable price, & getting a reamer that closely matches the die measurements, so I can get some case life out of the expensive cases... & then a bullet that would work at the modest smokeless load levels I'd be forced to use...

Just fill it to the top with 1F powder and shoot.

another option on the horizon...
how about 38-56 WCF??? 375 barrels are available, correct headstamp brass, or cases can be formed using 45-70 cases, dies, reamers, 375 bullets, etc. are all available... I've always liked the 375 caliber...375 Winchester brass is harder to come by, but could be made from 30-30, but is also pretty high pressure... also thought about 38-55, but was wanting something with maybe a bit more muscle
I'm still liking the 7-30 Waters, but started rethinking about something bigger bore ( shorter range ) that I wouldn't be wishing I had a scope on the gun...

If you're looking at the 225 Winchester, you could also consider the JD Jones cartridges like 257, 6mm or 6.5 JDJ.

Are you re-heat treating these actions? Quite frankly I'd be afraid to shoot most of the things that have been listed.

This action was chambered in 303... so it should be safe for that load level
