This is shaping up to be a really good year for rabbits, I'm getting lots of ammo ready. I think if I show a wheel barrow full of rabbits to my warm blooded buddy from Corpus Christi, Texas he just might crawl out of his nest & get his butt out here. Would love to see some of you guys at the next gathering, life's too short not to make the next one. Ground Squirrels, rock chucks, long range shooting, canyong shooting along the rive & did I mention EATING! We are going to bump it up a day earlier so some of the Shootists will have 2 days to get back to Raton.
lscg, you've got a pm.

what date will the next gathering be Dick? I've been wanting to come up there for it but I'd also like to try and go to John Linebaugh's shoot next June. I don't know yet if I could make either trip but I'd darn sure like to.

Zane, I'll have to check the calendar & get back to you, maybe Callshot can remember the dates.

I guess Callshot is too busy imitating rabbits to go with you. Nice shooting buddy!

Callshot's been really busy getting his wife's old house fixed up & sold, one of these days he'll be ready to hunt bunny's if I haven't shot all of them before he gets here.

Good score, Dick! Nothing like a target rich environment, especially when the target is tasty! Wish we had more around here; bobcats, coyotes and owls keep 'em thinned out here.
Boil for two hours....apply favorite dry rubb....smoke at 220* for 1.5 hours with some hickory......MAN!!!! Got my mouth watering now.

Went out again today but it was very windy, only saw one cottontail but he's no longer with us. I turned his lights out with the 32 maggie & that same 100 gr SWC & 3 grs of WST. About a 15 yd shot & I've never seen a rabbit jump so high, he had to go up 18" when it hit him. He ran around a sagebrush & plopped over. The shot had broke a little early & I hit him low through the heart & he really jumped at the hit. I just drive the back roads & most shots are 10-40 yds. You think of a 10 yd shot & think its pretty easy but most times because of the tall grass, weeds, sagebrush & sticks you are only shooting at a target the size of a quarter because thats all you can see through all the cover. Many times all you see is their eyeball as they sit there & let you drive past, you really have to be watching because its so thick. Without Callshot there I can only hunt one side of the road unless I turn around & make another run the other way. He's turned into a darn good spotter. Couldn't get the photo up, this is an old one the way I used to do it. Snow shoes are a good option when the snow is above your Croc's!! This is an OM 357 using the Keith slug with just 5 grs of Unique in 38 special cases. Dick

I'm sure you will have them all shot before I get there. If you don't then those other bunny hunters will have them before either of us.

I got to thinking about this post a while back. Especially the following; Quote; "lscg, I made those stocks out of Holly about 12 years ago & for a long time they were on an OM 41 magnum shorty. I took a lot of game with that sixgun including some Javelina & feral hogs in Texas. I had a hog laser engraved on the right panel at a place in Bandera, Texas. I like to use Holly that has some minor flaws in it & the laser engraving matched the flaws perfectly. That 41 shorty now belongs to forum member Contender, not sure if he's taken any game with it but I sure did. Dick" Well, I didn't recall getting a 41 maggie from Dick,, but I did get a nice OM 45 Colt. I looked in my records, & checked my 41 mags. Nope,,, none from Dick. So, Dick,,, if I didn't get it,,, who did? Or,,, more to the point,,, I'd gladly take it if by chance it's still in Soda!

Tyrone, I sold it to someone else & he sold it to you. I remember you getting in touch with me & saying you had bought it, might even had been Axe you got it from, not sure.

Well, that caused me to re-check my records! I found it! Yep,,, I had it in my detailed notes that it was once your gun, just not in the "who purchased from" section. Getting old & having more than "a few" guns can cause CRS! So the gun does now reside in WNC with a few of it's first cousins!

Bring that to the gathering next summer & lets shoot for it, I liked that gun & shot a lot game with it. Maybe we can have a long range contest in the canyon.... You know my eyes are bad.
