Paul
Can you tell me a little more about your 22/22 mag? ? Anything you would have done differently with it? Except for the octagonal barrel it's pretty similar to what I'm looking at.
I'm glad I ordered the gun the way I did. However, if I was going to do it today, I'd go with the standard round barrel and omit the 22 Mag cyl (this would save over $800 at todays prices).
I would also omit the trigger over travel screw. The way the trigger resets on the M97, I don't think it is at all beneficial.
I would go with the laminated rosewood grip panels vs black micarta. There is a subtle difference in dimensions (at least in the guns I've measured) that just fits my hand better.
I'd also go with a shorter barrel. Like the grips, this is just personal preference.
Word of caution, don't get the match grade chamber option. Reports that chambering rounds in the TIGHT chambers is a REAL PAIN, some even resorting to using a wooden dowel to completed seat a loaded round.
One last observation, even though the M97 is a mid sized gun, the .22s seem a bit heavy to me (44 oz for the 5.5" bbl) -- again, just personal pref.
The above comments re: the 32 Fed Mag chambering are well founded, but I'm a big 22 fan. I have two Single Sevens and think that is the perfect platform for the 32 Mag.
If you are a handloader, you might want to seriously consider the .44 Special chambering, I have a 5 1/2" and it is just works in the M97.
FWIW,
Paul

I love my 5.5" 44 Special, and can't wait to get the same only in 45 Colt.

I've drooled over these Freedom Arms forever. If I were to get one, I believe I'd go for my favorite 44 Magnum :-)
Good luck.

The 44 mags seem the most economical from my little bit of research. Kinda like in the scuffed up 3rd gen new frontier price range. Almost pulled the trigger on both a few different times. Some day I'll have an example of both. For now I'll remain content with my Rugers. They shoot straighter than I can.

Just to clarify, the Model 97 isn't offered in .44 magnum -- the bigger M83 is.

IMHO, the Freedom Arms 97 chambered in 45 Colt is the most useful revolver ever.
Accepts "Ruger Only" loads and provides plenty of power for most situations.
I regret waiting until I was 50 to buy one, but have it now and love it.

Tracking that the 97 isn't chambered in 44 mag. If I could own either an 83 or a 97, it'd be a 97 in 41 mag.... Probably a 5 1/2". Of course then there'd be a need to get a 32 as well. Maybe a 7 1/2"?

OK if it's only the 97 model I can dream about, I'll have one in 45 Colt AND another in 327/32-20 convertible Heck if I'm gonna dream might as well go ALL in... BigBore44

But, the 45 Colt is safe with "Ruger Only" loads which perform as well as the 44 Magnum with larger diameter bullets. It makes for an interesting gun.

I think the 97 is the perfect platform for the 32 mag/ 327 cartridge. This little guy is the only FA I have left in the safe.

Those are the first and maybe only set of one piece snakewood grips Roy Fishpaw has done and he could only do it once Hamilton did his two piece grip frame conversion to it. Roy said "a little bit of glue" got ouy from between the panels so he hoped I never had cause to take the grip frame off because it would be a "challenge" as he called it!

This Mr. Fishpaw has made many grips to lust after as well. Just sayin'. Tip of the cap.
