Just took delivery of these two pairs of grips, made by John Culina (aka "Kurac" on the S&W forum). I sent John a slab of antique linear paper micarta from Sheffield knife maker's supply and he sent back these grips. They're made in the old style "coke" profile and are quite comfortable. I think they look right stylish as well On blue, my pre-29 (1958 production) 44 Magnum: And on stainless, my 624: (note, the grips are nearly identical in color and shape; but the way the light hit when I took this picture makes the grips appear "warmer" than the 44 Magnum pictures) A look at the "coke" profile: I can't say enough good about Culina's operation. His wife, Jennifer, handled all of the communication via email and phone; she was prompt with her answers and shipping was very fast. John's workmanship is excellent, and I'm grateful he was willing to work with micarta as there aren't many custom S&W grip makers who do so, or who have reasonable turn-around times. Now if only I could get ahold of a slab of the old Westinghouse micarta...

Those are awesome! I think a Texas Star in the center would look great also, a little to grip but not like checkering to make your hand raw.

Very nice. You mentioned the color variation between the photos was due to the light; which photo most accurately reflects the actual color in person? Either way, they look great.

Both are accurate, it depends on what light you are looking at them in. The 44 Magnum picture was taken in the shade, so the grips look "cooler." That's close to how they look indoors under artificial light or in window-light. The 624 picture was taken in the sun around 6pm, so the light was warmer and more directional, which highlighted the grain of the grips and made the overall color appear more yellow.
One of the nice things about the material is how its appearance changes in different light, I prefer it to Corian and other synthetics for that reason.
