I didnt know revolver hunting was allowed in RSA. I might have to bother you for some experience and information as I am wanting to take my first trip.

Yes, a revolver is legal as long as it has some sort of optic attached to it. For example, on my last trip to South Africa, I used a freedom arms 454 with a small reflex sight (Trijicon RMR) and had no issues with the South African Police Service. I'd be glad to help in any way that I can, just let me know.

I know Gregg Richter went to SA a few years back and the guy at the check in station was REALLY interested in his FA and was talking about the paper work being all wrong and that he was would have to confiscate the gun. About then his PH walked up and met Gregg and suddenly with a look his paperwork was all better and he had a fine hunt. The lesson is don't take any unreplaceable gun with you and I sure them as well.
Why did you switch from the FA for this hunt since it is in the same caliber?

Fowler, I have always gotten my firearms permits pre-approved and used the meet and greet service provided by Afton House to avoid problems. It's a $75 insurance policy and is money well spent IMHO. It is my understanding that Gracy Travel and others provide similar services as well. Not taking a non-replaceable gun out of the country is solid advice! I didn't really have any reason to switch guns, just wanted to be different I guess. Both of my 454's shoot the 325 grain A-Frame well. Here's a photo of both guns using the same 296/325 grain A-Frame load at 50 yards. This is before I chopped the barrel, removed the scope, and had black micarta stocks installed on the FA 454: This cylinder full of A-Frames was shot at a 60 yard target with no aiming point (just holding center of paper) by the FA in its present guise: Here's an example of typical accuracy from the Super Redhawk. This cylinder full of 335 grain cast performance handloads was shot off of the Bog Pod PSR shooting rest at 125 yards. This is the same setup that I used in Africa to take the shots on game. A-Frames typically group a little tighter... I guess that was a long-winded answer to a relatively simple question, huh?

Been to SA several times and still not to Capetown! Being around seaports most of my life it looks great, especially the tugs as I worked on tugs for many years myself. Good stuff!
