Ok, so as we work our way around this frame, its time to put the crane in and check the fit. There was quite a bit of misalignment between the crane and its abutment which I made more evident by taking a few file strokes shown here in pic one. A bit more work done to recapture the curve to include a bit of blending and stoning and now it looks more like it should. The tape was put on the reciever to protect my little tender finger from the sharp edges on the sideplate. I went ahead and also worked on the arm of the crane and put the side plate in for an overall look at where we are at. We are getting closer. I am going to see about that gap, looks like it needs a bit of weld! 682

yeah how about some before photos?
Excellent work maintaining the Colt Rampart roll mark...those are pretty shallow and easy to obliterate.

Guys, the before photos were taken with my old phone. Not sure I can recover those!!! that's too bad, the best part is seeing the transformation....I have a similar project on my bench, a 1913 vintage New Service in .38WCF..

oh yeah, I just got started on it. Someone had a squib and bulged the barrel, so the previous owner cut it back to 4.5", in the process they snapped off the ejector rod... I am going to restore the finish (not a carbona type bluing, but rather hot salts bluing) along with nitre bluing the hammer, trigger and screws. Here is the replacement barrel

I don't have any Colts in my stable and this type of project is exactly what I had in mind. Excellent work on the refinishing! I'm very interested to see the final product.

I know 2Dogs is busy and I wish him good fortune in his endeavors, but, I don't want to miss the completion of this rebuild. Kinda like the gov't "I'm waiting".

I was just talking to one of the guys about it tonight.
I’m just a hair shy of bringing a classic concept back for all you guys who love the retro stuff...
Of course it bears on this project! Like all good things it takes time...
