Thanks for the post of links for the 44Special. It's appreciated. And yes, it looks like the other article is no longer on Paco's forum.

The Bulldog that lives here came with the factory wood, which John Taffin wrote highly of. Once I put on and tried the 'Pachy compacts I never looked back and lately sent the factory woods off to a member here for a better home. I found at a garage sale, a set of 'Pachy Presentation grips, much larger and better suited to test firings and range time. I leave the little compacts on for daily use. I took a file to the sharp edges on the cylinder release button. Maybe 8-10yrs back I had gotten back up the mtn to camp from a day of grouse hunting to find that the knurled end and the next piece from the end of the ejector rod were gone. A phone call when I got home had the needed parts in my hand in less than a week. My one and only dealing with customer service was great. A friend bought one of the bobbed hammer snubbier versions a few years ago then lamented that it was too akward to fire SA.. Told him to call CA and ask if a simple hammer swap was doable. They said yes, he did, is very happy now.

Must be at least afew Bulldog fans amongst the GunBlast crowd as they got their own version. A really neat looking tiger stripe pattern, some years back. Anyone here have one ?

Me too. It's been busy but this Sat is looking good. The cylinder is just long enough to clear the Federal LSWC HP load....

The all copper offerings such as by Corbon just fit too. They are a bit "feisty" in the Bulldog. A factory rep was in a tacticool class that I was in and brought a BIG box of freebies to pass out. Amongst my haul was a box of the 200gr DPX. Oldies but gooding here include the Federal load you mention and a box of Winchester Silvertips too. I wish Speer still made the 225gr 3/4 jacketed HP too. It was my favorite Bulldog bullet for years.

If you want to use jacketed stuff, I'd recommend the 200gr XTP. McPhearson writes highly of its use in his Bulldogs too. The bullet has a good velo window and is a good fit for the cylinder mouths.

JSutter, we are awaiting your range report... We finally made a short visit to our local indoor range. This is a fun lightweight big bore Special. Several factory loads were all about 2" low for me at 30' - Magtech's 200 gr lead Cowboy Action Load is my new favorite for this lightweight short barrel 44Special. Definitely fun, and it reminded me of the difference in recoil between the alloy vs steel J frame S&W's - more practice! Here a a couple pics:

Another happy convert ! Nice sight pic in the pic too. I had mixed results with cowboy bullets,200-ish gr softer lead type bullets. Some keyholing. Penn has a 185gr DEFWC that I like and Rimrock has a 200 gr FWC that I'll have to try. Matt's has a full weight FWC that I believe it's Encore64, loves. Luck.

I have a 3" classic...I have found 250 swc-k-pb by Bryan Reece with 8 grns of HS6 to be a favorable load and accurate....
