For anyone who might know (Lee ;D) Is there enough beef in the barrel area of an N frame smith to be converted to a 50 spcl? I just really like the idea an easy carrying smith in a lower pressure thumper like the 50spcl. Would there be a problem running light loads 300-350 gr bullets @< 1000 fps in the N frame?

This is one of those gun project dreams that I cannot drop. Mine is a little different than a 50 special. I would love a 1917 in 50 GI with moon clips. The custom cylinder and a gunsmith who will do it, is the question.

cj3a, thats another nice one. I just got a 1917 a few months ago and that would be really cool. I know they do the 50 on the Redhawk and Bowen does some amazing down sizing of the Redhawk but still doesnt grab me like a N frame Smith would. Thanks JT for letting me down easy ;D

Bowen makes a NICE 50 Special on the Redhawk. S&W Wesson makes a NICE 44 and 45 on the N frame:-)
