I saw a take off Colt Annaconda barrel today, 6" stainless steel, not to marred up. What are they worth?

Bill.... handled a Colt Anaconda at an outdoor show in New York City around the time of its introduction. Asked the Colt rep what type of lockwork it had. Did the barrel start as a forging, or as bar stock? What sort of rifling? What's the twist? Rep, black hair greased back, wrinkle-proof sharkskin suit, looks at me with the blank stare of a cow, no idea what I was talking about.
Still waiting on details... David Bradshaw

With the escalation in Anaconda prices, and the infatuation of some, I don't know the answer to your question, Bill. But, I must say "be careful". The very early 6" Anaconda .44 Mag. I once owned was by far the least accurate .44 Mag. I ever owned, out of many dozens. I sent it back to Colt with a thorough letter. Got it back after a long wait, with the same barrel, no letter of explanation, no visible work done. It shot just as poorly as it had... it was a boat anchor. Such was (is?) Colt ....

was never impressed my accuracy delivered by the anacondas had chance to own or shoot. had an early 6inch that was more of a shotgun and a later production eight incher that shot like house afire! shot several that friends had most were at best- just mediocre revolvers. one guy had an 8incher that was extremely interesting- the harder you drove any slug the better it shot. at max end it would begin to shoot but i never would tread beyond pressure tested data in a borrowed gun. made a few suggestions for bullet choice and he pushed some 240jsp a bit beyond sane levels and yet again we saw accuracy tighten up.

I'd give $200 for a barrel and start shopping for an alaskan SRH to chop the snout off off, and decide the caliber later. Might even build it as a .44, then rebore and 5 shot cylinder down the road...

I'll buy it for $200! If it's a .44 I don't think it's as desirable. It may need to be rebored. If it's a .45 you don't need to re-bore it for a .45 Redhawk or like Boxhead said a Super Alaskan. Unless you want a .44. I'll sorta hijack... My .500 Linebaugh

That was the gun I was thinking of. The guy wants $350 for it, seemed a bit much but then everything in that shop is always a bit much. They make a sexy Redhawk for sure.
If one was so inclined could that barrel but put on a N framed Smith? I can't say I have every seen it done so there is probably a reason for that...

Haven't you ever seen a "Smolt"?
Seriously, they put python barrels on L frame guns....a Smolt
That is a little high.
But, that is what they retailed for when Colt still had them NIS.

Bill.... you'd have to have a junk 29 to put an Anaconda barrel on it. Beauty of a vintage 29, the unexcelled balance of proportions, can only be vulgarized by implanting an alien barrel. Have you ever closely examined the old----the real classic----M29 barrels? Bores honed before the broach cuts the rifling, so the beautiful cross hatching remains on the lands. With vintage short forcing cone, these are 2-inch at 100 yard revolvers. David Bradshaw

Personally, and I believe our Mr Bradshaw would agree with me, the DW shroud route would be a good way to go as one could more easily control the quality of the actual barrel installed....
