I like that crossdraw field holster from Mernickle. This is another shot of my Montado. Alan Harton did the custom work.

Although my next New Vaquero will be a plow handle, I am totally in love with birdsheads and have a plan to buy as many as I can stand in every finish and caliber. That said I thought I would post some stuff you other Birdshead lovers might enjoy. I really like the Mernickle Field, I will definitely get one! You guys might enjoy this thread on the journey of a Birdshead to a "Boarshead". rugerforum.net/ruger-single-action/65592-evolution-birds-head-boars-head.htmlThat Montado looks great. I noticed you have the black micarta grip panels, I have a suggestion for ya but it's all on you. There's a guy in Tennessee that is a gunsmith, he hand checkers grips, panels just like ours for about $100, but check it out they look great and functional. his name is Ken at Rock Creek Armory, here's the link to his site: www.rockcreekarmory.com/You guys also need to check out Zane over at Lonestar Custom Grips! Excellent work for exotic wood grips, hand carved I might add for appx $150. You can check out some of his work in a thread called "Gripmakers Showcase" (his user name is LSCG). Here's the link: forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=264029Look specifically at post 1774, that's me ordering my Buckeye Burl grips and will give you an idea of his work. He is much more active later in the thread (higher numbers), he does a lot of Birdshead grips! Here is a couple of other Birdshead threads (My user name here is Boxer.45) forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=421184Another one forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=480790another one great picture thread (user name here is WASP) rugerforum.net/ruger-single-action/71549-rfboc-picture-gallery.htmlEnjoy!

No custom work...just the basic holster. As long as it holds the gun in place I'll be happy.

The birdshead grip was put on, a free spin pawl, Colt style ejector rod button, S&W adj. rear sight with a custom front base and sight, black powder chamfer on the cylinder, chambers reamed to .4525 and a really slick action tune and trigger job. I love this size 45. The balance is about as perfect as it can be.
The one you posted has a 5-shot cylinder, right? What caliber is it? I can't imagine shooting much hotter than 1,000 fps with the 250-265 grain bullets I load in mine.

Mine is .45 ACP 6 shot with a 3.75 inch barrel. I want a .45 LC Birdshead, but I have already committed my mind to getting a .357 New Vaquero plow handle, then a Glock 30 or 26, then about 3 birds heads, a .45 LC in blue and stainless and the .45 ACP in blue, then a Single Six stainless. After that I will get a leaver action .357 Winchester then I'm done.

Yeah I have been using a couple of those fabric type holsters but they don't keep them very secure. Will get a pic when they get here.

Your firend should be very pleased with that gun & holster, they are beautiful. EPS does a fantastic job with their holsters.
