This is home for my .44 special when it is not straped on. And a little bigger .44 Mag rides along. 16" Marlin slicked by Mic McPherson

Mr. Richardson: did you have a set of stags on that 696 at one time? I seem to remeber that door pocket picture that way. IMO, Those wood stocks are about the best design for practical use S&W ever produced. Rob

You are right again Rob. It has been a long while since it wore the stags. That would be 4 or 5 years ago.

That 696 really looks good to me. I love mine. These are one heck of a gun. Bill

Wickerbill, The only thing I don't like about the 696 is it is too short to kill a legal deer or anything else in Arkansas. Our animals will withstand anything shorter than four inches.

Nice setup, Tom. I like those choices! "Slick" is right regarding that Marlin.

I passed on one last fall for $700.00 at a gun show. The vendor still had it by the end, so everyone else must have passed on it too. I probably would have been willing to go up to $550.00 or so, but even that would have been pushing it.

Does Andrew the Tuba still have his 696? As I recall he picked it up for 3 pieces of range brass and a Safeway Milk Coupon. He might make you a deal. Rob

One thing that Andrew has demonstrated time after time is a nearly unerring eye for deals that he can make money on. He's made a hundred bucks in a matter of minutes before, almost in front of my eyes. As I recall, he doubled his money on that 696 he found. It was a nice early one, and I didn't even know the first thing about them until he showed me the deal he'd just bought.
