It's small, but it was the first chance I've had in 12 years to put venesin in the freezer. I leaned my 92 against a tree to do some morning business when 3 of them came in and stopped about 40-45 yards away. I looked over at the rifle then at the Thunderer in it's holster(which was at my knees) then drew and fired. The 250gr Lee rnfp took out both front shoulders and she went about 30 feet and died. The rifle would have saved some meat with a sure boiler room shot, but I'm happy anyway.

Good for you! Now you know you don't need to carry that 92 with you! Nice work!

Thanks Ken. I might have to try again with just a handgun. It sure was rewarding.

Thanks Max, means a lot coming from a seasoned handgunner like you. Zuess, I can't say it was practiced, but maybe a little airsoft range in the bathroom would help.

Making the best of getting caught with your pants down. Meat in the freezer is always a good thing.

0369, that sounds like the hunting story's my uncle tells. Every one of them starts with I was doing my morning business.

I think more than once many of us have been caught "with our pants down" so to speak. Back in the stone ages when I still used a rifle as my primary deer killing tool, I was about to leave an area I knew I'd not be back in for days, & had to reduce my bladder size. Well, of course that was when a few deer decided to make an appearance. I had my 243 slung across my back & it came around & up easily. Two freezer fillers later, I was smiling.
But by far, it's MORE rewarding to take a deer with a handgun. CONGRATS on your first, of many I hope, with a handgun. Never apologize for the size either. Meat is meat!

Nicely done, taking one with a sixgun really puts the fun back into hunting, congratulations! Glad the recoil didn't knock you over backwards! ' Dick

It definitely makes me want to do more handgun hunting. Cholla, it was a Lee 255gr. Rnfp, but only 250gr due to a ding in the mold so I had to fly cut a little off the top. It was pushed by 38gr of Goex ffg. I wish I would have had bullets from my my home made mold in it to make it even more personal, but when I butchered it I saved and rendered the tallow for some BP lube.
