Been taking my 6.8SPC out all season, but hadn't seen a thing since the scrub buck I took on muzzleloader opener. About 0730, someone spooked this little guy out of the bottoms & he decided to stop & catch his breath, standing directly broadside at ~ 50-60yds directly in front of my stand. SSA's 110gr AB load proved that to be a fatal mistake. At the shot, he disappeared & thought maybe I'd missed. While taking my mandatory smoke break before climbing down to see if I'd hit him & start looking for sign, I realized I didn't hear or see him hauling tail, which I found a bit odd. No need to worry, as he was DRT. Literally fell over dead in his tracks. A look-see in the chest cavity revealed a complete pass through, both lungs jellied. The bullet missed his spine by maybe an inch. I've seen 'em haul tail with both lungs hit, so I'm thinking the hydrostatic shock to the spinal column is what put him down like hitting a switch. Thought my inline smokepole clobbered our little deer, but this is my first "bang-flop". Considering that where we hunt is super thick/heavy brush, anchoring them & not having to track, or drag any further than necessary is awful nice.

Nice deer! I certainly agree with it being nice to not having to work to get your deer out off the woods. But any successful hunt is worth the work.

Thanks! Wouldn't exactly call it "not work", but a 400yd walk, pulling a game cart beats the crap out of a 600-800yd drag out of the brush. Actually, the hunting's been so poor this year at the farm, that I didn't expect to see anything & decided to be lazy instead of hiking a mile, back into the bush. 20 years in the Army, half of it on jump status destroyed my left ankle & lower back, so bringing a deer out of the woods can feel like a hell of a lot more work than it should. Sometimes you just get lucky. lol...
We generally go through right at 2 deer/year, so this little guy topped the freezer off- always a good thing.
